Been getting into Dark Country style. Essentially great southern rock with some bad ass cowboy blues mixed in.

Some Girls '78 - still enjoy playing along with that album, on guitar or bass, a true classic

Man, look at that list and think about 70s rock n roll. You could put together dozens and dozens of lists with similarly awesome records from that era. You won't find four records in last 20 yrs that good period, let alone dozens.

I totally disagree. While the 70's were great for hard rock and early metal, give me time and I could come up with at LEAST 50 albums/Cds that are far superior ,IMO,to this list.

Hold on now, It's true I would put the 70s up against any other decade (including the 60s and 80s), BUT that's not what I said in the post. I said you can't find four records as good in the "last two decades." That goes back to 1998.

Also, if I may contextualize my comment, I'm not only referring to songs that the rock n roll UMA members enjoy, but i'm also thinking about the cultural significance of these kinds of records from the 70s. So you may like an 80s record from Manowar or someone like that better than "Some Girls" or "Tres Hombres," but I think if you polled the majority of rock fans, most of us would stick with Led Zep II.

But let's go back to my point about last two decades. I can't imagine anyone finding four records in last 20 yrs better than that 70s list---in terms of universal appeal and cultural significance. Even look at some of the bigger, mainstream rock acts in last 20 yrs (White Stripes, Kings of Leon, Imagine Dragons, Rival Songs etc.) and I think a lot us would still prefer 70s rock versus these bands.

Again, I'm talking about universal appeal and cultural significance. Sure, I really enjoy and give shouts out to contemporary metal and hardcore bands on UMA all the time---Every Time I Die, Deftones, Suicide Silence, and Mastodon for examples. I love these bands. But I would never claim records from these bands compete with the classics of the 70s.

I'm glad you mentioned "Some Girls", Geezer. It's not only a great record, but also the very last masterpiece the Stones would ever record. I love them, but they have have put out quite a string of duds since.

Iggy Pop - Lust For Life
My favorite Iggy solo album. Includes "Lust For Life" (of course), "Sixteen", "The Passenger", "Neighborhood Threat" and other greats.

Speaking of Jimi....

Just listened to the "Experience Hendrix" compilation. Not a bad track in the 20. Hendrix was light years ahead of everyone (except, maybe Jeff Beck...i find him to be Jimi's equal).

Thank you, Mord. Definitely, we must! I love to locate a vinyl copy of that Sugarcubes album.
Maybe at Amoeba?
