neonnoodle:
I posted a link to this long, long ago, but thought I would post again, since that thread has disappeared into obscurity. And actually the wewbpage has changed addresses. Please take a moment to enjoy this endearing little tale about one gal's love for the film "REPTILICUS"...
Hepcat:
Poor Reptilicus! Sadly misunderstood by a hostile world and even more hostile film buffs.
:(
Unknown Primate:
That was a little sad. I saw REPTILICUS at the drive-in as a kid, also. The name & image of the monster stayed with me for nearly 50 years. I was recently, graciously, given a copy of this film (from a UMA'er!) I hadn't seen in a long, long time. Believe it or not, the monster growing from the bloody tail was a segment (no pun intended) that I had forgotten about! That scene was one of the main things that impressed me so much as a kid. As I was watching it on dvd and that scene popped up, I was so flooded with nostalgia, that it made up for the whole movie.

Like many of us who grew up in the NY tri-state area, my memories of "Reptilicus" are from Ch. 7's old "The 4:30 Movie." And, even back then, as a kid, I knew it was a piece of crap! And yet, every time it came on, I had to watch it. Once, even my mother commented, "Are you really going to watch this garbage AGAIN?" (And it was from HER that I got my love for the classic monster movies, but she had little patience for the more modern ones.) I'm not sure when "The 4:30 Movie" died, but I know they killed it to make a hole that Oprah filled. But, whenever they last showed "Reptilicus" was probably the last time I've watched it. I really should try to get the DVD.

Ah, I remember "The 4:30 Movie" well!! Along with "The Million Dollar Movie", "The Late Late Movie", etc etc. Good times, great programming. Thank God for those NYC stations!!
BTW, The Oprah didn't FILL any programming hole. She CREATED a programming black hole that's been sucking the quality out of daytime TV ever since. She's a friggin' plague, the queen locust of an innumerable horde of imitators who have stripped bare the formerly lush fields of TV content.
