GREATEST SPORTS Movies of All Time

Time to compile a list of sports movies...I'll get to an "order" at some point but right now I'm just going to jot down what comes to mind 1st.

Rocky 1-4: How can this not be the 1st movie that comes to mind?

Miracle: Kurt Russel as Herb Brooks was just epic. This is movie turned the real life Brooks into one of my heroes. Incredible all around.

Major League: WILD THING!

Caddyshack: More about the laughs than the golf, but hey it's still makes the cut.

Bull Durham: Tim Robbins in an Iron Maiden t-shirt and the lines that are exchanged with Kevin Costner throughout the film are classic!

Kingpin: Again more about the laughs than the bowling but Bill Murray might be the most obnoxious human being alive in this film...and I love it lol.

The Longest Yard: The original.....if I have to give an explanation......

Invinceable: A personal favorite of course (Eagles!) Greg Kinnear absolutely NAILED Dick Vermil--this movie rocks!

Days Of Thunder: While Tom Cruise is a douche I thought this movie was alot of fun (I understand hardcore NASCAR fans hate it due to the incredible BS). Robert Duvall was a fantastic crew cheif as well.

Hoosiers: Gene Hackman, Indiana, nuff said.

Breaking Away was a great movie and is still a personal favorite.   Also loved Rocky and Rocky Balboa and The Raging Bull.  And just caught the end of Rudy on TV recently.

How about Pat and Mike?
Katherine Hepburn is Patricia Pemberton, sports phenomenon--especially golf and tennis.
She meets up with a shady promoter, Mike Conovan, (Spencer Tracy) who has made his living fixing sports events.  She's a brilliant athlete, except when her fiancee is around. Mike tries to go legit before Pat finds out . Together they take on Ladies Pro Golf, mobsters, and her fiancee.  Lots of real athletes make cameos or play small roles:
Babe Didrikson Zaharias (1932 Olympics in Los Angeles:  two gold medals, one silver medal. Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year 1932, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1950 & 1954. One of the founders of the LPGA.
Gussie Moran, Amateur/pro tennis player--Wimbledon 1949, 1950.
Betty Hicks, Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year 1941.
Beverly Hanson,  17 career wins on the LPGA Tour 3 of which were majors. Besides the inaugural LPGA major title, in 1956 she won the Women's Western Open and in 1958 the Titleholders Championship.
Helen Dettweiler, won the Women's Western Open in 1939, and was one of the 13 founders of the Ladies Professional Golf Association in 1950.
Alice Marble , Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year 1939 & 1940
Don Budge, One of the 20 greatest tennis players of the 20th century, he was the first amateur to win the four major tennis events (Australia, France, Great Britain and United States) in a single year (1938).
Frank Parker, tennis star. Won both the French Championships (1948, 1949) and the U.S. Championships (1944, 1945).Also a singles champion (1941) and four-time singles finalist at Cincinnati, and won the Canadian title in 1938.

Chuck Connors had his first role in this movie.He had played center for the Boston Celtics in the 1946-47 season. But switched to Baseball. Played for the Brooklyn Dodgers,. Montreal.and Chicago Cubs. Was playing for the Cubs' Triple-A farm team, the L.A. Angels, when he was cast in this movie.

You know what I'm gonna give an honorable mention to? Heart Like A Wheel...the Shirley Muldowny story. Not a bad movie at all, and as a woman racer she really should get more credit.
