Finally got around to watching this one. Got it at a Half Price Books for $2 still sealed! It's a Dan Curtis production, with the script by Richard Matheson. It took certain liberties with the source material (but don't they all?) It was okay, but Palance's Dracula just seemed a bit off to me. At times he appears extremely feral, but then he wimps out when he has his prey at bay. He did a believable Dracula, but I'm not sure I'll watch this again any time soon. After watching Lugosi, Lee, Palance, Oldman and Langella Bela is still my favorite Dracula. I just wish Tod Browning hadn't lost interest in his film. With a completely dedicated director who knows what heights Lugosi's Dracula could have reached?
This is actually one of my favorites. Scared to crap out of my when I saw it on tv as a kid. I love the Dan Curtis take on the count and also think Palance pulled off a great preformance. I would suggest giving it a month or 2 and re- watch this movie.I'd bit you will like it more next time around.
Marvel Comics based their Dracula on Jack Palance.
