Joby Harold Crosses Over Into The Twilight Zone
Source: Variety
June 7, 2012

Joby Harold is the latest name to tackle the screenplay to The Twilight Zone. Variety reports that the All You Need is Kill screenwriter will perform a rewrite on the television adaptation, previously scripted by Jason Rothenberg and then rewritten by Anthony Peckham.

Unlike the previous anthology feature that was released in 1983, the new film will incorporate multiple story elements from classic episodes of the 60's series into a single narrative.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Appian Way are developing the film with Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In) attached to direct.

Appian Way partners Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran will produce with Michael Ireland, while Matt Cherniss will executive produce.

I don't see this one working. It should be an anthology film.

I think it should be NEW stories too. Rod Serling did a lot of stuff that was never filmed. Include one of his, maybe some of the other TZ bought but never made scripts and you have your film. Planet of the Apes could have been a TZ movie. You need to develop it as a brand name.

I fail to see the point of doing a remake of episodes people love.

Rod Serling tried to turn It's A Good Life into a movie spin off but it was deemed to horrible to film.

They should not do this. I'm a fan of the original show and nothing else. The 1983 film was good, but the two times they attempted to revive the series didn't turn out good. I mean the 80s zone show had it's moments but couldn't compare to the original. I never watched the 2000s one, but I guarantee it wasn't good. A new film would be a bad decision, just another attempt to cash-in on the legacy of the original show with awful actors, poor storyline, and CGI monsters, explosions, stunts, etc.

I'm going to be optimistic about this (until I hear that there is some unnecessary sexual situation between Barnabas and Dr. Hoffman or that Grandpa Munster is wearing a dress... Then again, those things belong in a place called the Twilight Zone).

The idea of combining original stories and various elements could definitely work, but it has to be done right.  And I don't have a lot of faith in Hollywood these days...  But we shall wait and hope.  Give us a Rod Serling narration, the main theme, and we will be off to a good start.

Found This on the Interneweb (posted 5 hours ago):

'Oblivion' director headed to 'The Twilight Zone'

Joseph Kosinski Tapped for New Big Screen Version

Director Joseph Kosinski is in talks with Warner Bros. Pictures to direct a new movie based on Rod Serling's classic TV series, "The Twilight Zone."

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of Kosinski's involvement in the project, which has been in development for several years by Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way production company. Several versions of a screenplay have also been written, although Kosinski may start fresh.

It's not clear whether the new movie will feature a single storyline or a collection of shorter pieces, and if any of it will be based on existing "Twilight Zone" episodes.

The original series, created and hosted by Serling, ran from 1959 to 1964 on CBS and has become a lasting pop culture icon. Two more versions of the series appeared in 1985 and 2002, while a 1983 anthology film featured segments directed by Steven Spielberg, Joe Dante, George Miller and John Landis.

Kosinski has directed two films so far: this year's "Oblivion" with Tom Cruise and 2010's "Tron: Legacy" with Jeff Bridges. Both, while flawed, were beautifully designed and shot; Kosinski has an undeniable eye for the visual side of sci-fi, while still struggling with story and characters.

But he's certainly a more than reasonable choice for a film like this, and now it only remains to be seen what kind of trip into "The Twilight Zone" he intends to take us on.

But if you don't, then it's only Twilight Zone like.

My fear is that the tried-and-true morality tale with compelling characters will be replaced with over-the-top computer-generated special effects.

Starring either Tom Cruise or Keanu Reeves.

Sigh.

Maybe they'll get Shia Labeouf and we can all commit mass suicide on opening day. ::)

Considering DiCaprio is behind it, I have few reasons to think it will be a complete disaster. We can sit here and say it will be because the script is this or that, but without it even being finished and still way early in production, that's not a fair judgment. Kosinski is a great choice for director. His films have never been great, but that's due to the scripts, rather than his direction which is pretty great. Assuming Harold is still writing (which doesn't actually seem too likely now), that is still a plus considering the upcoming film Edge of Tomorrow is one of the more anticipated Sci-Fi films in recent years. I have a good feeling about the film if they ever get it out of preproduction.
