I grabbed the pic off the internet Steve, best I could find of the belt and goodies. This was such a cool toy, although even as a kid I thought it was wrong that it came with a gun. Everybody knew Batman didn't carry a gun!

I was surprised to see the little rope line in the picture because I always thought the 'rope' -which was more like the string on a clothesline - was something my folks or brother added to the belt. But it looks like it came with it. I also don't remember the flashlight or grappling hook. Maybe my brother got rid of those, who knows.  This blog link shows a wide number of variations in the accessories: http://tomztoyz.blogspot.com/2009/05/reference-guide-1966-official-batman.html

Maybe the 1966 Batman didn't carry a gun but the 1940's Batman sure did!

True Mike, but my main exposure to Batman at age 5 was the TV show. All he carried was a paunch!

True, "The Batman" was merciless before Robin came along, tossing thugs off roofs and such. Detective Comics number 27 to 37 didn't include Robin and would cost a not so small fortune to amass these days!

Not true. Batman was introduced in the May 1939 issue of Detective Comics and was only portrayed to have a gun a couple times in the next few issues. By the fall of 1939, editor Whitney Ellsworth told Bob Kane to get rid of the gun and an origin story explaining Batman's hatred of guns was published. This all occurred before 1940.

Adam West was a travesty in the role, partially due to his physique which didn't exactly fit the mold of a superhero and partially due to his deadpan acting style. In fact, the TV show with its campy portrayal of Batman almost singlehandedly destroyed the whole concept of Batman. As such, it was hated by pre-existing Batman fans. Worse yet, DC dumbed down its whole superhero comic line to better conform with the TV show and take fuller advantage of its popularity. In effect, the fellows running DC mortgaged the future of their company for a short-term sales gain.

The "real" Batman wasn't brought back until 1969 by writer Dennis O'Neill and artists such as Irv Novick:

Neal Adams:

And Jim Aparo:

Unless you consider that the popularity of the show probably expanded the concept of character licensing of comic book characters, which probably did a lot to ensure the long-term health of DC and Marvel. And, unlike the current crop of comic-book movies, the TV show prompted a big spike in sales of comic books across the industry.

The enormous popularity of the TV show rescued the Batman comic book from impending cancellation.  Whatever you think of the show (I'm a fan) -- without it, we likely wouldn't have had all the various versions of Batman that followed.

Personally I think there's room for the many different interpretations of Batman, including the TV show. Was it "THE" Batman? Not for me, no, but for some folks it is their favorite version. I'll take the Kevin Conroy-voiced animated Batman over all others, including the Nolan films, which I don't see as being very Batman-like at all -but some folks adore them.
