I generally hate it when "they" mess with things that have historical integrity, although I wouldn't mind too much seeing the obvious wires erased from a blu-ray of War of the Worlds. I think George Pal would have given that a thumbs-up. Now I'm feelin' guilty for sayin' it.

Naw, when the wires and such start poking out when they DIDN'T in the original, I'm all for fixing newly integrated flaws like that. I just don't like the idea of remaking history ala Lucas and Star Wars .

I would say no, for the same reasons mentioned before me.

Now, if footage was found of the actress in the scene WITHOUT Lugosi, I wouldn't mind seeing a recut sequence as a bonus feature.

I appreciated the clean-up done on the director's cut of Superman:The Movie, particularly fixing the color of Reeve's uniform from teal to the actual blue it was supposed to be. I didn't care for some of the new sound effects added here and there. It wasn't a deal-breaker and didn't change the feel of the film like Lucas' constant tamperings, but it does stick out to me every time I watch the DVD. Thankfully, the theatrical cut is also included, as it should be!

I've always heard that this was supposed to be fixed with a visual effect in post production, but the new studio heads nixed it, so it was just left as is. At this point, having grown up with the movie and seen it more times than i can count, it would stick out like a sore thumb to me if they fixed it. It would be like the version of the '31 Dracula with the musical score added. the new score is nice, but I have only watched it with score once and I hated it. It was like watching the movie with the radio on-the music did not belong there -I've seen Dracula so many times I basically know it by heart and the music score seemed very out of place to me. As for the afore mentioned erasing of wires in things like War of the Worlds I m all for it. They were not viisible before and restorations and tweaking the picture make them visible-take em out.
Crazy am I? We'll see if I'm crazy or not!
