Here is Lugosi inserted in the classic Thesiger role:

Previously made these images in response to a thread on another site and thought they fit well here at UMA.

Interesting idea. But Ernest Thesiger owned that role.

I agree, Thesiger owned that role but it would have been fascinating to see Lugosi in that role.  I mean, there is no disputing he is a horror icon but that would have cemented him even more to be a part of that classic film.  He was so good as Igor in SOF and GOF.

I could see it as Lugosi wanting to be part of the franchise as he missed out on the orginal movie and Universal wasn't offering any new Dracula roles.....

Universal wasn't offering any new Dracula roles.....
They were still developing "Dracula's Daughter" at the time, and Lugosi would've had a substantial flashback sequence in it.
Not sure that Whale would've given the Pretorius role to Lugosi, even if he'd been available. I think this was around the time Lugosi was making "Mark of the Vampire" with Tod Browning at MGM.
Still, it's interesting to speculate.

Nicely done "Photoshopping".

But I do agree with the sentiment about Thesiger owning the role.
It would have been interesting to have seen what Whale would have done with "Daughter of Dracula", especially if they had brought Lugosi back.

Whale didn't want to do "Dracula's Daughter," period, that's why he kept adding stuff to the screenplay that he knew wouldn't get past the studio censors.

I'd still like to see the "lost" pics of Lugosi's "self-inflicted" make-up for the original Frankenstein proposal. :/
