AMT Barnabas reissue
« on: April 30, 2012, 09:43:15 PM »
Johnathan Frid's recent passing inspired me to move Barnabas to the top of the model pile. I finished him up last night. I wanted to use the glow parts for his face and hands and painted him with thinned down paint so he does still glow. I did the same with the bat and rat and left the spider and head of the cane in pure glow plastic. For the bats, I used the two wires thta came with the kit for the stupid bendy arms that don't work option and drilled 2 small holes in the base and attached them that way. Let me know what you guys think.

I just noticed that there is a ring on Barnabas's left hand! Doh! I'll have to paint that.

You did a great job on a kit that, frankly, has always had a lot of issues. A lot of issues!

Thanks guys. I didn't actually have many problems with it-I have heard about the issues and was prepared for some major work, but it wasn't too bad. I am going to try to get a picture of it glowing tonite.

I'm wondering how long it will take you to notice that the Barnabas is an MPC kit....

Well I triied taking glow pics nd they did not turn out very good at all... anyone have any tips? They are too dark to really be able to make anything out.  Yup, thta's right Hep-I knew Barnabas is an MPC kit-I don't know why i kept typing AMT-the old brain ain't what it used to be I guess-too many glue and paint fumes maybe.

If you have a black light, it super charges the glow plastic.

Nice job by the way, I snapped this guy up on the weekend but haven't had time to anything else.

Very cool, neat trick for the bats.  But make sure you paint his ring.  ;)
Yeah, a black light will not only super charge it, but you can leave it on when you take the pic and the parts will glow and you'll still see the figure also.

The big problems with this kit are the pegs in the arms.   They need to ne snapped off or else the arms won't go together.   I also noticed both my arm sets used the flexible arm mold.  Only one pair is soft, but they both have the wire armature pegs inside.
Morning, noon, or night, Anytime . . . . the count may strike. If you're caught you have to linger, Cause Dracula may bite your finger!

Well, looks like I'll have to invest in a black light! I've been working on the hunchback reissue and am going to fix Barnabas' ring while I'm painting Quasimodo.
