New leatherbound editions of Dracula, Frankenstein....
« on: March 03, 2012, 03:38:26 PM »
Barnes and Noble is doing a nice new series of leatherbound editions of the classics -- with really handsome covers (many in a "Victorian" style that really appeals) -- and at nice prices, too.  I just picked up the Dracula -- and Frankenstein is out in a couple weeks.  There are also really nice editions of Twain, Verne and more in this series.

Considering I've never read them this seems like a good time to buy!

They're kind of dinky. The size of a paperback.

I wouldn't say they are the size of a paperback -- unless you're talking about a larger "trade" paperback size.  The Dracula edition I have is 8 inches tall, 5.5 inches wide and over 1.5 inches thick.  Most modern hardcover novels are an inch or so taller -- but this is a fairly standard size for older books, say 1960's or earlier (and bigger than most books I have from the '30s and '40s) - and since they are evoking a vintage book and feel here, the smaller size makes sense.

No illos -- strictly the text.

Well, I've got the centennial edition of Dracula that Barnes & Noble did in 1997, with illos by Edward Gorey. Might pick up Frankenstein, though, since I've only got a paperback edition.

I have the leatherbound edition, Classics of Horror-Dracula & Frankenstein from Longmeadow Press (c1991)~

Otherwise I would probably go for these, the covers are pretty cool, they remind me of my leatherbound The Complete Tales and Poems of Edgar Allen Poe (which I actually got from Barnes and Noble a few years ago, in the clearance section no less)~

Hey, I'm no longer moderated.........that might not be such a good thing!!

I LOVE these! I've been very tempted by the Ray Bradbury & John Carter of Mars volumes.

Well, it certainly looks to be worth $11, especially in leather. I'm in for one. It has a great vintage vibe to it.

What the hell! They replaced Fred March with Spencer Tracy in that '32 window card art!
