My favorite models from the past include:
The Forgotten Prisoner of Castle Mare (built 3 times, each time with extreme detailed painting)
The Creature from the Black Lagoon ('love the long nails and adding just the right amt of blood)
The Mummy (nice detail, fun to paint in extreme detail)
Frankenstein (my first model kit, my older brother made sure I spent a LOT of time building it)
The Phantom of the Opera (built at least twice, love the detail)
The Hunchback - molded in dark brown, lots of deep whip cuts on his back to paint red, quite a gruesome kit, indeed - strange that I built the model before seeing the movie...

I don't think it was strange.  You didn't have to have seen the movies to be taken with the Aurora monster model kits. The only one of the movies I had seen before I built any of the kits was the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Well said. The Forgotten Prisoner of Castle Mare is a superb example of that! I DID find a comic about that model and how he became The Forgotten Prisoner, which I should post in another thread for you guys to enjoy! brew cheers, happy Fri night  8)

I picked 5 but ONLY 5 is difficult. For me, I picked some for sentimental value (Godzilla was my first one) and others because they are just so well done. I would have to say that for me my least favorite one was the Wolfman. Not that it is badly done but the likeness is so far off and he was my favorite monster.

But because the box art of the Aurora kit was so iconic, James Bama's Wolfman became for many of us the definitive Wolfman against which all others were measured. My problem with the Aurora Wolfman kit is that the sculpt isn't up to the quality of the box art.

Here are the top ten vote getters with 91 members having cast their ballots:

Frankenstein 59
Creature 50
Mummy 41
Phantom of the Opera 36
Dracula 31
Bride of Frankenstein 30
Forgotten Prisoner of Castel-Maré 30
Wolf Man 28
Godzilla 16
Witch 15

The Forgotten Prisoner continues to slowly climb up the leader board. Here are three fabulous takes on this kit.

First a high quality job by Jim Bertges that's everything a professionally built and painted kit should be:

With flash:

And then an absolutely awesome eye-popping one done by Witch Hunter with glow-in-the-dark paints:

Finally a very nice looking buildup by Cerebus:

i see them all as good sculpts, just some better or more evocative than the others. i bought some replacement heads for my next go round, so if they look good they will go on.

the yagher box cover kits are a mite pricy so i did opt to get some base customization kits where not too expensive. phantom, hyde, hunchback... will see if any others emerge...

all good pics above.

I agree with some of the other posts here that expressed disappointment with the wolfman sculpt compared to the Bama box art, which led me to build it up like this...(warning...this is my very first attempt at a buildup and I am no Yeager, but I hope to improve with time...)
