Beach Boys 50th anniversary tour

I just saw the Beach Boys on June 27 at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, N.J. All original members except for Dennis & Carl Wilson, who both passed away. I thought before going that this had the potential to be a train wreck, what with their ages near or at 70. Mike Love I believe is 71 already. I took my 9 year old son to his first concert, as he's familiar with a lot of their songs, with his favorite being Kokomo.
Well, I couldn't have been more wrong about how they would sound. They weren't just GOOD FOR THEIR AGE, they were incredible! Prior to the start of the show, while my wife was buying some ice cream, they were playing Beach Boys songs which I thought was coming over the sound system to get people in the mood for the real thing. Just then I glanced at the stage and saw some people on there and asked one of the staff who they were, the guy told me it's the Beach Boys, Duh! Didn't I feel like the jackass! lol.
Anyway, what I thought was the original recordings blaring over the sound system, it was actually them playing live already. It was that hard to tell the difference, they were that good. They played from 7:30 - 9:00, took a 20 minute break, and came back on until 10:30. Not bad for some 70 year old guys!
It seemed like every other song, you would go, yeah, that's a hit, yeah, that's a hit, and then you realize how many songs they had that were hits. I'm not going to say it was the best concert I've ever been to, although it's up there amongst my favorites, but I will say this; It's probably the happiest concert I've ever been to. They sing about the beach, the sun, surfing, and girls. What's not to like?
When the concert ended they still hadn't played Kokomo, and when they left the stage I could see my son was a little upset. I told him not to worry, that they would come out for an encore. Sure enough, they came out and played Kokomo, Fun, Fun, Fun, and Help me Rhonda. I turned to my son right at the end of the show and said: Michael, you've just seen one of the great bands in the history of music. I could tell he was thrilled and I had to get him a Beach Boys t-shirt on the way out which he wore to summer camp the next day! lol
