Yes!  I have always thought this was underrated.  When it had come out, it felt like Michael was taken as far as they could so I welcomed the more anthologic feel to III.
couldn't have said it better. Halloween III is probably my favorite sequel besides part II

Listen to them. Children of the Night. What music they make!

I liked Halloween III also.  It has grown in popularity over the years.  There's still a good number of people who don't like it, of course, "there's no accounting for taste," but it seems that many more people appreciate its unusual approach.  I think Nigel Neale's input has a lot to do with its better qualities...
Beautiful moving, shifting colors!

The Filmakers wanted to take the series in a whole differen direction, but Michael Myer Fans, wanted the series to be about the guy in the Shatner mask.  They ended up getting their wish, but to be honest, the later ones with Myers are for me are so-so efforts.

Carpenter (and others) should have stuck to his guns and did a stand alone for the 2nd Halloween film instead of giving in and revisiting Myers again; People would have still been disappointed with the Myerless sequel but not as much as they were by the 3rd entry...An anthology movie franchise would have (and still would be) a groundbreaker, though I suppose the Tales From the Crypt movies would be considered the first standalone anthology franchise?!

Rich

I think The Twilight Zone would be the first stand alone anthology franchise. I think antholoies work better as television series then film series.

Somebody listed Psycho 2? Jeez.
Bride of Frankenstein may be the all-time best example. It didn't try to recreate the original, but it sure put more meat on the bones.

I liked Psycho 2, but it was honestly fan service for those who loved the first film.  Not to be confused with the Psycho remake, which was a pointless waste of film.

P2 is decent, but I can't imagine favoring it over Sir Alfred's masterpiece.

I once mentioned in a conversation what a breakthrough movie 2001 was.  Somebody hearing this was outraged, because in her opinion 2010 was a superior film.  I'm still unclear why how good 2010 was had anything to do with the impact of 2001, but it does validate how there are those who perfer a  pedestrian film to a cinema classic.

I'm with you on 2001 though I also enjoyed 2010.  To me, 2001 was groundbreaking.  While 2010 was good, it was just a Hollywood movie.  Kind of apples and oranges.  You can almost see what kind of fan someone is by which one they prefer.
