Sideshow Figures Question
« on: January 04, 2012, 06:33:59 PM »
Is series 5 of the 8" figures (particularly Dracula) and Series 1 Really worth as much as  people are asking on Ebay?  I want to collect the figures but really can't understand an action figure that isn't that old, being worth so much.  I'm new to collecting, so maybe I don't "get it".  Can anyone provide some insight?

Series one thru four were very widely distributed. They were all easily found at Toys'R'Us for a couple of years. Series five was releasesd a full year after series five due to difficult negotiations with Lugosi Jr. They were more expensive and not sold at T'R'U. They were also made in limited quantities (5,000 of Ygor and Red Death Phantom, 15,000 of Dracula). They also happen to be among the best looking figures of their kind. That said, prices vary drastically from seller to seller. Hunt around and you should be able to get a good deal. Good luck!

Thanks for the info, I had no idea.  I mean..I knew that Lugosi's likeness was the reason there was no Dracula until series 5, but I didn't know they weren't so widely distributed.  I have to wonder if someone will actually pay 150.00 for a Dracula figure  ;D

Naw, I saw one on E-Bay for $75 a few days ago. Trust me, you'll find a reasonable one. You could buy a loose one, but make sure it has all the accessories (bat with clear stem, candlabra, cape and castle-step base). Good luck.

Geez, I am SO glad I bought them when they came out for like $20 each or so! I just wish I had picked up more of the 12 inch figures when they came out, I can't afford them now!
Crazy am I? We'll see if I'm crazy or not!

I bought my Dracula about a year ago on eBay (MOC) for about $60. But it took a few auctions before I got one at a price I liked.  Keep looking!

15,000  is a ton of figures.    Plenty to go around and then sum at retail price.   Don't worry you'll find someone selling off their Sideshow Collection on ebay for retail prices.

I'm into the 12"ers and got into them late.   With patience I've never paid more than retail for any of them off Ebay.  Including the Creature.

I've been experiencing this problem lately with Marvel Universe figures.   They were /are made in the thousands yet a 2009 action figure of Vision lists at $90 bucks etc...

Once I finish getting the Little Big Heads and the 8" Figures, I'll probably try the Silver Screen Versions and the 12" Figures, but I'm dreading that because those go for A LOT of money.
I have to wonder if a lot of these are really WORTH what people are charging.  Too bad there isn't a guide or something that shows how much something is really worth.  Like what Toyfare Magazine used to do.

it  just takes takes a little time and patients, i got my 8" wolfman for five dollars at the swap-meet, but i have seen them on ebay for good prices as well. this Christmas i purchased an 8" silver screen creature for $35.00 and a clear creature for $20.00 on ebay for my brother.  my bro  gave me an 8" glow in the dark wolfman for $20.00 bucks that he found on ebay too.   there are good deals keep up the search and good luck

i collect just the wolfman figures, so far i have the silver screen 12"wolfman, the teenager werewolf 12", the 24" pozer wolfman, the 8" wolfman and  8"werewolf of london figures, the 8" glow in the dark wolfman, the sideshow bobble head wolfman.

of the little big heads i have the silver screen and the standard wolfman figures. i also have the LBH keychain, the wrestler figure, the skateboarder, and the gold 1999 toy fair wolfman LBH.

i am working on getting my hands on the 12" werewolf of london, the glow in the dark little big head wolfman, and i would love to get one of those colored translucent wolfman little bif heads. i know that there are christmas little big head figures and the wolfman is part of that series i would love to get one but i think they are rare and pricey.

i know that collecting these can get expensive so i just take my time collecting and searching, i think that's part of the fun. enjoy the hunt

They aren't worth the inflated prices IMO. Not with the kind of numbers they were produced under.

I have all the series. One of my fave Universal fig lines.
Yes, that last Series 5 went for pretty pennies even 10 years back on Ebay.
I paid an arm and a leg for them back then, but I really wanted them and am glad I bought them.
It really depends how much you want them.
I paid almost $100 for the Red Phantom. He's such a cool piece though.
