I got the moebuis Dracula in the other day and to be honest its a great kit.The head is sculpted by Jeff yagher and the body and base if correct was done by Creaturekid Adam D.I waited 40yrs to see a really good kit of Bela as Dracula in Styrene and this is the one so the wait was well worth it! :)

Was just looking thru pictures/comments on Moebius Facebook page and noticed this posted by Moebius~

"Ian, the Deluxe kit will be later in the year. Pillar, and a "victim" will come with it. Slightly different arm, cape and head with that one."

I really want to see pictures of this deluxe kit!!!!

As do we all. I went ahead and bought the standard version, as I got 20% off on it. But, I'm curious to see if the new head on the deluxe version is a better representation of Bela's Broadway make-up. Lugosi heavily accentuated his eyebrows (almost making it a unibrow, which was consistant with the description of Dracula in Stoker's novel), and gave himself dark circles under his eyes. He also had a slightly greenish tint to his skin (which was made even heavier in certain scenes through the use of green pin-spots on his face). I plan to recreate that look when I paint my kit.

well, modelers dont often care for what universal ends up letting go out for models. the approved sculpts dont tend to look like what was in the movies. ergo, universal plays hardball and isnt really marketing by putting their best product foot forward. no doubt they are playing financial hardball. i am sure the model companies are dealing with jr. by choice. finances being the main reason, but creative differences play a part.

Hate? No, I don't think hate enters into it at all. Resentment, yes. A feeling that Universal profitted from his father's efforts beyond their contractual limits? Absolutely! But, more obviously, I think it's GREED. Lugosi Jr believes his father's likeness is worth far more than it actually is. By cutting Universal out of all licensing deals, Lugosi Jr gets a bigger piece of the pie. And, by doing so, instead of coming to terms with Universal (the way Sarah Karloff did), he does a great disservice to his father's memory and his fans. Just my opinion on it. I'm not a lawyer, but I have had a one-night stand with one's daughter in a Holiday Inn Express!

This.

In all honesty, Lugosi's image would be worth more with the power of a major studio behind it, as it was for a few years there...  Back when life was good.   :D

Have you seen the new Bride of Frankenstein model kit and new Creature model kit Universal licensed with Moebius models? They are darn impressive! Especially for plastic kits! I know some people have issues with the new Diamond Select figures, but they could be a LOT worse and at least were getting a few that we haven't had before. I agree there is a lot Universal could be doing with the monsters that they aren't, but between some of the awesome stuff coming out now and the great work Sideshow did with the license a few years back, i think Universal actually has done a pretty decent job when it comes to merchandising. Like Count Z pointed out, I think it's more Lugosi Jr. than it is Universal in this case. I know Moebius did choose to deal with Lugosi on this one to get the likeness that they couldn't get with Universal, but based on what I've heard in the past, it doesn't seem like many people really WANT to deal with Jr., but some times they have to.
Do you like monsters? They're my only weakness...

If his terms were reasonable, people would deal with him. Granted, Uni is no angel when it comes to licensing issues, either.

Here is what I don't get. Wouldn't Jr. make MORE money with having his father out on MORE products??

And how can anyone do a Dracula of Bela without Universal? Doesn't Universal own a claim to that costume/make up?

I haven't seen the Creature. Got a link? I assume the Bride is the one where she's sitting with the Monster?

revenge, the monster/bride looks good so far, but the new mummy wasnt all that impressive, and a lot of folks complained about the bland new monster-only model.

Bela Lugosi originated the role of Dracula on Broadway in 1927. The basic stage costume: white tie, tails, and high-collared opera cape, had originated with actor Raymond Huntley for the 1925 British production. Although Universal bought the screen rights to the Broadway play (as well as Stoker's novel), they don't own the rights to images FROM the play. The Moebius "Bela Lugosi as Broadway's Dracula" kit is based on promotional images from the play. There are slight differences in the costume (notice the absence of the medallion?), and Lugosi did his own make-up for the play and the film. All Jack Pierce provided was a hairpiece to lower Lugosi's hairline.

So what you're saying is Jr. will deal with a company easily UNTIL he hears Universal is involved then the price goes up? Why doesn't Diamond just do their Dracula figure like that AFTEER the Universal line runs its course? There could be a big Dracula boom so it APPEARS part of the line when it's not. I'm still surprised Universal doesn't raise a stink about it though....And it's odd that the Bela Dracula could be released among Universal Monster kits and it worked out but Diamond couldn't do something similar.

It's my understanding Lugosi Jr. won't even deal with Universal anymore. He wants to completely cut them out by licensing only the Broadway Dracula now.
Why doesn't Diamond just do their Dracula figure like that AFTEER the Universal line runs its course? There could be a big Dracula boom so it APPEARS part of the line when it's not.

Ask Diamond.
I'm still surprised Universal doesn't raise a stink about it though....

Moebius probably tried to pursue a co-license deal and Lugosi Jr wouldn't come to terms. Moebius isn't releasing the Dracula kits with any Universal images or logos, so how can they complain?
And it's odd that the Bela Dracula could be released among Universal Monster kits and it worked out but Diamond couldn't do something similar.

Maybe Diamond doesn't want the headache.
