British Frankenstein Monster Halloween Costume
« on: June 03, 2008, 08:50:37 PM »
We were searching the web for halloween costume props when we found this site:
www.thefancydresswebsite.com
What suprised me was when I searched "Frankenstein" what came up was not our traditional Universal monster but the Hammer Frankenstein Monster that looked like Christopher Lee!
Is that the iconic Frankenstein Monster for the British Isles or does it have to do with international copyright laws?

Hammer films are more popular in the UK than in the US.  Also Hammer is just now starting to come around and realize, like the Universal monsters, there is a market for them.

Cool masks too.

Nice job on the info ray, I was going to suggest the site. They have some great stuff. Besides costumes, they have beautiful poster reproductions for sale. Well worth checking out.

After years of saying I wish someone would make Hammer toys, I have yet to buy one of those Chris Lee Dracula dolls.  I wonder why that is?  Maybe a combination of the price, lackluster package, and the fact that it was not officially sanctioned by Christopher Lee.  It was licensed by the "studio," but not the actor.  And then it became clear that it would be a stand-alone item instead of the first in a series.  There would be no Cushing Baron Frankenstein, no Reed Werewolf, no Lee Mummy, no Yeti, Zombie or Reptile.  Bah.  Phooey.  So the whole project kind of smelled like a loser.  It had an air of illegitimacy.  I still say, "Wouldn't it be cool if they made Hammer toys."  But do I really need to buy another set of $50+ collector dolls?  No.  Make them $10 each, stick them on peg hooks at Toys R Us, and I'm there.  So I guess what I really want are not Hammer toys, but Hammer TOYS.

is it just me -- or does the Chris Lee Dracula mask look a little too much like George Dubya...?

When I first looked at it I thought it WAS a Bush-as-Dracula mask. I'm still not sure it isn't.
