HEAT WAVE
« on: July 22, 2011, 07:47:57 PM »

I don't know about the rest of you cats, but I'm melting in this miserable humidity.  Air unit went out, luckily it is still under warranty.  How's everybody else doing ?

Lookin' a little sticky there, Bill!  Yep - it's averaging 110 with the heat index, here.  Last night (this morning) around 4am, it was still in the 80's but felt like 98!!!  AC & Fan all day & night for this ol' ape!

Sweet cool air now, but for most of today is was around 95 inside here.  At least the cats stayed out of mischief for once, just laid around and hit the water bowl.

KC area is also hot and dry....though the Missouri is still over it's banks. I stayed in all day, but I did get a sense of how bad it is when I let the dog out.....LOL.......Love, Buddy

The crazy heat finally arrived here on Long Island today. I put an A/C unit in my 88 year old mom's attached apartment, but we're not so lucky in our part of the house...don't anticipate much sleeping going on here tonight. I called  Zacherley today to see how he's making out in the city [where it's even worse!] and he was fine, wisely staying close by the A/C unit in his apartment. My big bonus of the day was my initial call inspired him to call me a number of times more during the day....One of the calls was to ask me if i was into comic books as a kid...specifically, Captain America. I could almost hear Zach's jaw drop when i told him; ''Hell, yeah! Joe Simon [Cap's creator] lived in my neighborhood in Woodbury NY when i was a kid!''

Anyway, one of Joe's kids asked Zach to please send Joe an autographed pic of himself, as Joe was a big fan of Zach's! He obliged and in return Joe Simon sent Zach an inscribed hardcover book about him and Jack Kirby and their impact on the comics industry.  After hearing of my connection with the Simon's, Zach says he's going to send the book to me! I've always kicked myself for never getting Joe's autograph before he moved from the neighborhood when i had the chance...leave it to Zach to fulfill yet another unrealized dream for me...John Zacherle, the gift that  NEVER stops giving!

Welcome to my world. It was still 106F when I went out to get dinner at 7:30 tonight. Why did I move to Phoenix again?

But seriously, if you're not used to it -or Heaven help you, don't have A/C -it's pretty horrible. Hang in there folks.

I keep my house at 70 and my train unit at work nearly freezes me out. Needless to say I don't go outside for very long. The funny thing is I grew up without AC and until 2 years ago I never had it I acctually preceded not to have it then. And i was a bricklayer before i got my cush railroad job. Now I don't know how i would survive without it. Man I've really turned into a pansy. I should be ashamed.

Hit 103 F in central NJ.  Glad to work in A/C.  I had a guy out to the house to repair something on my roof.  He was out there for hours/ no water.  Smoking cigarettes.  I think he was from Mercury or something.  He would have survived the volcano blast in War of the Gargantuas.

I HATE the heat .. It's 88 right now .. going up to 95 later .. they are promising 69 tonight .. if I can last that long and of course the a/c broke and we're living with one fan and a ceiling fan .. I'm ready to murder someone to get into an air conditioned jail.

Jails are air conditioned?

To step outside is to begin puddling. We went to see Capt. America at a late night showing on Thursday and it was 101 out. At midnight.

I had NO idea it was so hot up there guys!  I haven't been following the news for the last week or so, and when I was in South Dakota a couple weeks ago, it was breezy and in the 80s. So I actually felt chilly......    Yikes!!!  I feel so BAD for you all up North! It is a real tragedy when the weather heats up so hot where it should NOT!!  I live in the South, so I long for the first 100 degree day in the summer. I absolutely feel at my best when I'm warmer than warm. I really hope you all stay safe and cool up there. We just got back from St. Augustine, Fl. today and it was only in the 90s. We spent 4 hours in the ocean yesterday and it was really nice, but not nearly as hot as it should be for late July. I hope this horrible streak of Northern heat breaks up soon, but if it doesn't- come on down- I've got sleeping bags!
Be safe- and send it back down here to me  :)
Moonshadow- I was in AZ. in April once and I fell in love with that dry stuff- but I'll keep my humidity  :)
