Actually they're both legitimate "local" terms. the term "roughrider" has been used in many western contexts in Canada and the States, but the Saskatchewan term was taken from a team of North West Mounted Police (precursor to the RCMP) horsemen known as the "Roughriders"

The Ottawa term came from the nickname for loggers on the Ottawa River; when you're rolling logs, you're a "Rough Rider".

Vital information.  AWESOME, Pauspy!  You've cleared up a mystery for many a US-based person regarding the Rough Rider/ Roughrider thingy.  I can't wait to tell my friends the truth behind the names.  It actually makes sense now. 8)

Friday Night-Hamilton Tiger Cats 39, BC Lions 31

This was a pretty entertaining game. Lots o' offense and some pretty good hitting at times. At times it seemed like the refs were playing to the hometown BC crowd in their selection of penalties, but that's unfortunately typical. To be honest, I have always suspected the refs of calling games so the result is "good for the league". For example, this afternoon Winnipeg plays the Argonauts in Toronto. If the Argos win, there will be three teams in the Eastern conference at 2-2, with Montreal out in front at 3-0 (and probably 4-0 by the end of the weekend-sorry 'Riders). Looks "competitive" while keeping the fans interested in Montreal, doesn't it? Just sayin'

Kevin Glenn for the TiCats looked good again. I think I was one of the few people in Winnipeg not calling for his head before he was shipped to Hamilton. I still think this was ill-advised on our part.

I don't know what BC coach Wally Buono is going to do. The "winningest coach" in CFL history has started 0-4, and while the Lions didn't look too bad, I don't think Wally wants to rely on another second-half surge to make the playoffs.

This afternoon-Winipeg Blue Bombers at Torotno Aronauts, Edmonton Eskimos at Calgary Stampeders
Supernatural, perhaps; baloney, perhaps not.

Saturday scores:

Winnipeg Blue Bombers 33 Toronto Argonauts 24. Wow-this one was two different games! Wil the real Argos and Bombers please stand up? In the first half, the Argos could do no wrong, and the Bombers could do no right, The league's best defense was shredded for 17 quick points in the first quarter and it looked like the rout was on. Argo's QB Chris Lemon was knocked out with a broken tooth by a thunderous hit by Bomber's QB Joe Loebedahn, but back-up Dalton Bell looked steady in relief. Somehow the Bombers got untracked in the second half, and QB Buck Pierce finally started to click with his receivers. As usualy, the Bombers made it difficult on themselves by not finishing off the Argos with a late drive, but in the end it didn't matter. Bombers 3-1, Argos 1-3. Go Blue!

Edmonton Eskimos 24 Calgary Stampeders 19.  I didn't really watch much of this game, but it looked like a late push by the Stamps was thwarted by the Eskimos. Eskies 4-0 this season-are they for real??
Supernatural, perhaps; baloney, perhaps not.

Yes, the Eskimos are for real. Get ready for another streak of five Grey Cups in a row by the Esks.

You gotta know every team is gunnies for the Eskies. They all want to be the first to knock them off this year. Wonder when the Bomber play them???  >:D
