Solid Bronze...the metal...I saw it on ebay, won it and it's just been posted to me, so it's not in my hands yet...The seller said he got it off of a guy who had it for years but that's all he knows about it ???.So I'm on the hunt for its' origin.
He says it weighs about 3lbs, but I'll get an accurate reading when it arrives...
The guy I bought it from is from Crown Point, Indiana, United States...

It would be nice if it were the prototype made before the actual run of plastic, who knows?

This is interesting.  I've never heard of a bronze version of this being made.  From the photo, it looks like someone just painted it with bronze paint.  I guess it all depends on how much it weighs.  Please give us more info once you receive it.

Well, if it's metal that will be easy enough to determine. I'm pretty anxious to find out about it myself.

Well, the seller flatly states that it is indeed metal..........molded from the kit itself in bronze.

It could be a custom recast; I know a Captain Action collector who did that.

Geez, just take a spoon and rap it on the thing. "Ting!" means metal. "Thunk" means "rip-off". :D

I'm not a model maker, but I do know the molding process and manufacturing. One can't take a mold made for producing plastic models and simply fill it with molten bronze. You could do cold cast bronze, but the molds made for a plastic model would not withstand the rigors of molten metal casting.

I'm NOT saying that your piece isn't bronze, I'm saying it can't be from the original mold.

That said, they could have made a wax positive from the originals and then used the lost wax method to make yours, that would work.

I'm very eager to hear more once you receive it in hand!
