You can thank Disney for that. Have I ever mentioned how much I loathe Disney and anything associated with it?

'Enjoy seeing a decent paint job on The Prisoner, as I have built that kit a few times and painted it in super detail. My final (best) version was trashed by my Dad when I was in college as he was 'tired of dusting it'...'Took it for granted I could used to visit any drugstore and find the kit in their small toy section, or even the flying sub if I wanted to build it again. 'Good times.

You can thank Disney for that.

How could Disney possibly block the use of that name, given that the book has been in public domain for ages?  (Look at all the various versions of it that have been filmed for cinema and television, not to mention at least one straight-to-video cartoon.)  As I recall, Polar Lights later reissued a glow version of the kit (in square box, I think) that restored the Hunchback name, but used a new version of the name plate (a larger square piece instead of the long thin one that originally ran along the base.)  ANYONE can legally use that title, and the folks at Disney would be fools to attempt going to court over it given how quickly that could be established.  (Not to mention the potential negative publicity that would result.)

Too bad it has that dumb "Bellringer" name.

At the time of the first Polar Lights release of the kit, someone was offering a resin replica of the original nameplate.  I forget who, at the moment, but I recall grabbing one up at the time I ordered the PL longbox model.

Getting back to the monsters, Jim Bertges does some fantastic work!  I picked up one of the Polar Lights Spider-Man kits with an eye toward repurposing the staircase from that for use with the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde kit.

As I recall the use of the "Bellringer" name was a preemptive decision on the part of Polar Lights since their release of the kit was very near the time of the release of the Disney animated musical version. They wanted to avoid any potential conflicts with Disney which was a potential source of future licenses.
You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred.

Any idea why, when Polar Lights/Round 2 reissued the Hunchback kit, they went with an all-new nameplate design rather than just stick with the original?
