You are NOT kidding....What burns me is the ones who do it as a business on Ebay.  Ebay USED to be a place for collectors but not now.  Now these guys come in and buy huge lots of stuff and then turn around and sell it for twice as much and double the shipping charges so they make even more money.  I hate ebay.

What you say is too true. Obviously these people haven't sat down with a financial planner. If they had, they'd realize that there are much more effective ways to make money than to screw around nickle and diming with toys. Not only that, but speculating literally keeps these toys out of the hands of the people who truly desire them. Just my two cents. Spend them wisely. ;)

Welcome webelongdead. "We Belong Dead" just happens to be my all time favorite monster movie sound bite. I'm a bit envious that it's your ID.

Anyways WBD, I would point out to you that one source of monster merchandise is our Classifieds Board here at UMA. But like any other web site, you must use discretion with whom your choosing to do business with. So far there have been no reports of deception or fraud at our board. At least none that I'm aware of anyways. It's always going to be "buyer beware" no matter where you shop.

If you haven't already, go do some window shopping over at our Classifieds Board. You never know what your gonna find - http://www.universalmonsterarmy.com/forum/index.php?www;board=5

You might also put up a "wants list" in the classifieds. Maybe somebody will have something, or know where you can find one.

What problems exactly are you having on eBay?  I buy on eBay all the time and very rarely feel like I "got the big bone".  Unless I buy a skeleton of some sort, that is...

I would have to agree. I've made many, many purchases and in the rare instances (maybe two in the last ten years?) that the seller makes a mistake they have always put it right.

One time I won an auction for the book And the Darkness Falls, an anthology of horror stories hand picked by Boris Karloff. I had been looking for this for years, with a dust jacket, and won it at a decent price. What I received was an anthology of Ellery Queen mysteries!! I immediately emailed the seller, he apologized, told me to keep the Queen book, and sent me the Karloff book. The Karloff book was in darn near mint condition!! I was amazed that I got it for what I did.

While everything has its faults, I for one enjoy the crap out of ebay. Yes, there are some crooked sellers out there with inflated shipping charges and lousy feedback, but you DON'T have to buy from them. Among other items, i've amassed an incredible collection of Wolfman and Frankenstein Monster Nik trolls [see Frankenstein Troll Heaven thread] that i simply NEVER would have happened upon without ebay. Sometimes for a steal! [sometimes not] I've also taken advantage of the classified ads here on the UMA site and have NEVER been disappointed. We're all kindred spirits here.

Amen!  Preach on!!  If I'm not watching 40 or so items and bidding on 5 or more items then I'm lost!!  I've only been a heavy Ebayer since I started selling my unwanted toys from childhood back in February but I've yet to have a bad sale or buy......Jinx, jinx!!  Actually I did win a Hasbro Creature for my daughter back on April 8th and I've yet to receive it!  Still hoping the seller comes thru, they have good seller feedback but they've yet to answer any of my e-mails.

As far as buying and reselling at overpriced rates-I've won several lots but only needed 1 or 2 items in that lot.  I turn around and re-list the doubles that I've acquired but at reasonable prices because I'm not out to make back what I spent on the lot and I don't want to keep an unwanted item when someone else can win it for their collection.  Also if an item is worth something (and sometimes even if it isn't) usually the winning bid will reflect that no matter how low the starting bid is.  Then again, Ebay is like going to a casino, sometimes you win, sometimes you loose.  One week an item will go for an exorbitant rate (Good for the seller.) then another week it'll go for pennies on the dollar (Obviously a win for the buyer.).

I probably overpaid (Actually I know I did!) for my Remco 3 3/4 Dracula but I wanted one to complete my set and Ebay idiots were bidding on them higher than you could just buy it now?!!?  So I bought it now.  Anyone see the posting over at the Classic Horror Film Board where someone bid $42.00 for an issue of Famous Monsters 246 that you could just get from FM for over half that!??!  Bidding like that does not help regulate pricing on Ebay.  Sometimes I don't mind overpaying for something I want since I don't plan on reselling anything.  By the time I die and my kids have to resell everything I'm sure the price I paid won't matter.

It seems that, more and more, you either "overpay" on ebay or don't bother bidding.  There are still some good deals now and then.  But on a lot of stuff, people will just bid whatever it takes to get the piece, even on run-of-the-mill items.  I guess money is no object for some people.  Sadly, I don't think most of us are in that group.

This is the time of year when eBay prices are their highest for most items...  from after Xmas through about the beginning of April.  This year the "economic stimulus" checks are going out so over the next 2 weeks prices are going to be higher than ever.  If you wait until Summer, that's the best time to buy, by far.  eBay sales are always slowest in Summer, sellers get in a pinch, and things are available much cheaper.  Smart collectors will save their money from now until the middle of June and hunt hard on eBay from then until the middle of September.
