Beautiful Rondo, Ranier. Worthy of a Rondo! Reminds me of Jeff Preston's prismacolor marker work. Just stunning!

And Mike, that Doctor Shocker fellow sure looks familiar...Hmmmmmmm...Looks a lot like a guy I made a movie with recently...

I've been so busy working on projects I can't show you yet, but they will be published later in the year. However, to preserve my sanity, I've made the time to do a few pieces for myself, as seen below:

Mike: Your "Dr.Shocker" looks delightfuly past his sell-by date. Looks like you've recovered from your long winter's nap quite nicely.
I have too many irons in the fire and none of which has even reached the drawing board yet;still the painting of the Brough Superior motorcycle(no deadline) and now an Adirondak chair to be painted for charity with a Shakespearean theme(deadline drawing near)---only problem is that work has intruded with extra hours, the sewer almost backed up into the basement, hurt my back trying to unbung the sewer and just now recovering from the flu. None of the above are condusive to being creative. Grumpy, yes. Creative--not bloody likely.

Meek, Thanks for the kind words.

I hear ya! I very dear friend of mine is getting married today, and he wanted me to paint a picture of him and his fiance. I just couldn't do it. He gave me this rather bizarre photo of them dressed in turn of the century attire, and I struggled, and struggled with it, but it just wasn't meant to be. I told him maybe after the wedding when he gets some decent photos of the two of them, I'd try again.

It's a shame how work interferes with the creative process, but that's the way it goes I guess.

Illoman,
the Dr. never looked better!
Btw - For Rondo I  used my acrylic Model paints and Creamcote like flat acylics.

Monsterart,
Thanks for the compliment ( & the help  ;) ) !
Ol' Franky really suffers and Gwangi (or is it more an Obie Allosaurus?) is also roaring sucess.
Terrific Stuff!!

WOW!!!! Amazing art everyone. I've only come to this site for the first time last night, and I've looked through all the artwork 4-5 times already.
Illoman , I love the Don Knotts. I looked at all the art before I registered and seeing that painting, inspired my user name. Such is the power of art. LOL
Nightmares, your art blows me away. I love all the pieces you posted.  The Rondo, Ygor, and Wolfman are outstanding actually everything you posted is, but those are my faves. Your art is in the same ballpark as Basil Gogos and Daniel Horne in so far as how much I love it. Thats high praise indeed!!
Mr. Deitz, it goes without saying what a fan of your's I am. Although I'll say it again here. I'M A HUGE FAN. I have too many of your sketchbooks and a few prints to pick any favorite pieces. So I'll just add the few times we met, I thought you were a heck of a cool guy ta boot.
Meek, that Conrad Veidt is just great. To read you do that kind of work with eye problems is inspiring. I used to paint 3 or 4 times a week (mostly watercolors roughly 11x14)  and I tapered off as my eye sight got worse. Nothing as dramatic as your story but it almost got to the point were my nose got wet from the watercolors on the paper. I  wear bi focals now, I cant find the "sweet spot" to see the overall image and what I'm working on that second, so I paint with out any glasses on.  Having to be that close to the board made  painting for a few hours straight painfull, and I never hit my stride for an hour or more.  So I've only painted 2 portraits in about 4 years.  One was a Grampa Munster that I gave to Rob Zombie and the most recent was a Gene Wilder that I gave to Mr Wilder.
But and I took the long road to get here.... you guys have inspired me to (and I'm sincere about this),  actually get behind the old drawing board on a regular basis.
Thanks for the kick in the as.. I mean shot in arm.

Jesse, welcome, and thanks for all the nice words about the artwork here. This board has a tremendous amount of not only talented, but downright nice folks here.

Please post your work as well so we can all see it!

Jesse: You are most kind with your praise. I know just what you've been through with "finding the sweet spot" when trying to see to paint. I've found help with a black eye patch partially covering my left eye(acts as a light baffle & helps to focus that eye)and some $2.00 magnifying specs found at the local flea market. My eye problems cause me to see halos and ghost outlines around things; 3 years ago a very large piece of my right cornea stuck to the inside of my eyelid and peeled off--besides being  extremely painful I couldn't see to call the eye doctor. Thought for sure my painting days were over but after being treated by the doctor the eye healed enough after a few months and with my Jerry-rigged specs can now see detail  enough to paint. Ye giddy Gods---if I couldn't draw or paint I'd lose what little sanity I still have (kept tucked away in a nutshell).
I just got a "thank you" note from the lady who now owns the sleeping angel amongst the ivy; every Monday she takes said painting with her to "Martini Day" at her favorite watering hole and I have become a proxy drinking buddy.

Man, oh man, I hear you, folks. I now have to use reading glasses to work on pencil drawings. Not so much for oils or charcoals, because those are supposed to be worked on "from a distance." But the projects I've been hired on lately have mostly been pencil caricature "Sketchy Things-style" stuff, so those reading glasses are getting quite a workout.

Here's a pencil piece I finished yesterday. I couldn't have done it without the glasses!

Frank: I can see them now, framed side by side on a wall--eternally pissing each other off.

Thanks, Jesse, a.k.a. Frank!

We've started a regular feature over at the CHFB, called "The Classic Horror Art Challenge," in which each month the artists are "challenged" to create a piece of artwork based on a chosen character or actor. Many of the UMA members are participating, and already its a blast! The first subject is Bela Lugosi as any of his vampire characters. This was my submission, but there are many others to feast your eyes on...

And this one was just for fun...
