Vincent Price notice
« on: March 12, 2008, 06:19:21 PM »
Again, courtesy of my friend's "newspaper collection" comes this notice from the December 6, 1952 edition of the Cincinnati Enquirer:

How cool would it have been to see Vinnie on stage in his prime?

Oh, How cool would that be!   Only about 20 miles from Cincinnati and before my time.  LOL

Very cool!  I wasn't attending dramatic performances in '52 (I was 5!), but I did see Vinnie in Dayton in OLIVER! about 30 yrs later.  He was in his element as Fagin, hamming it up and having a ball!

Robert! That was the show that was responsible for me meeting him and getting his autograph! If I remember correctly, I believe Lon Chaney Jr was slated to play Fagin, but he became ill and the part went to Vinnie. I recall being disappointed because I was a much bigger Chaney than Price fan back then, and was all set to have Lon sign my Denis Gifford book with that cool close up of the Wolf Man.

Getting to meet Vincent more than made up for it, though!

I have no memory of the possible Chaney/Fagin--that would have been a very different propostion.  I can imagine Chaney growling "You've Got to Pick a Pocket or Two" (that would have been fun!), but I have a hard time picturing him dancing and swooping around the stage.  Vinnie, as I recall, did a LOT of "swooping" with his long ragged cloak!
