Okay, guys. I'm going on a family vacation to Orlando/Universal at the end of next March. This might seem early but does anyone have an idea of the kinds of classic monster gear I can expect (or not expect) to find? We're definitely hitting the Monster Cafe but I've read somewhere they don't carry any stuff. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

There is a store at the exit of the Mummy ride that has some stuff in it some times, but its rare. it's usually just stuff from the Brendan Frasier version. Every once in a blue moon you'll find some UM stuff in the parks, but don't get your hopes up unfortunately :-(. The last time I saw a good amount of monster stuff in the Orlando parks was in the mid to late 90s when they had a store on the main street where the make up show let out. But now it's a Terminator store. The restaurant is pretty cool though!
Do you like monsters? They're my only weakness...

^^ Exactly...I was there last month and that's still the case.

There's merch from the recent Mummy movies in the shop at the end of the ride and the main shop has 11x17 poster reprints. That's it.  >:(

At least the Monsters Cafe has reopened full time now that Amity Island is closed.

Thanks guys. I was kind of hoping to hear better news and that I was wrong. Ah, well. I'll keep my nose to the grindstone and perhaps get lucky. You never know!

I'm not sure if we are talking about the same little store, but there was one that carried Betty Boop and I Love Lucy stuff and it was near the Lucy exhibit (assuming it's still there) and I bought a Hunchback of Notre Dame 12" figure there about 3 years ago. They also had Monster postcards and posters in there. But you had to dig through the racks.
Good Monster hunting! And have a great meal at the Cafe!  :)

When I was there in October I was told by staff of the park that the restaurant was closed indefinitely, (no longer on the guide map) and when I asked about UM merchandise I was told "no one wants that stuff, they only want Harry Potter monsters now" I left in disgust and vowed never to return to that park again

That's such BS. Unfortunately, and it has been several years, I don't recall any monster stuff when I went, other than a Psycho shower curtain :P

That's Silver Screen Collectables...across the "street" from the main shop. They still have a few of the same posters (the Universal store on CityWalk has them too) but the postcards and figures are gone. Fortunately, on my first trip in '03 they still had a few Bates Motel goodies (robe, towels, room key keychain, and the shower curtain with mother's silhouette) leftover from when the Alfred Hitchcock attraction was there (it's now Shrek 4D)

Thankfully it is open again. It had been closed for about 4-5 years (except for special occasions like Halloween Horror Nights when IOA wasn't open), but when they closed the Amity Island area they reopened it.

I would have started a riot if someone said that to me. lol  IMO it's kind of a slap in the face.  Universal DEFINED the horror movie.  To try to eliminate Horror stuff for Harry Potter is just sad.

I got this Dracula coffee mug back in 1990 at Universal Orlando, but I remember being disappointed there wasn't more monster stuff.

I too was there in '90 and paid something like $15 USD each for the four character mugs and one featuring all of them. I also bought several magnets (which included the Ceature) as well as  keychains and cloisonné pins, all with the same designs. I was such a sucker. Still am!  :D
