Title: 1964 FRANKENSTEIN GLENN STRANGE BLOW MOLD HALLOWEEN CANDY BUCKET PAIL UNION
Post by: Roosje on August 14, 2020, 03:19:34 AM
It has a great vintage look about it. Difficult to put a price on it based on the numerous offers laid across for it. This piece is not dated but we understand they were made between 1964 and 1966 and sold in East Coast chain stores

1964 FRANKENSTEIN GLENN STRANGE BLOW MOLD HALLOWEEN CANDY BUCKET PAIL UNION

What's this "UNION" all about?

This piece is not dated but we understand....

Who is "we"? Any connection to toy manufacturers, distributors or retailers of the 1960's?

...they were made between 1964 and 1966 and sold in East Coast chain stores.

Distribution being limited to the East Coast is something that some of us on this board have suspected. Can you shed any more light on the matter?

 ???

What's this "UNION" all about?

I think he means it's a pail and a bucket.

Who is "we"?

Us.

"Union Products" made all kinds of Halloween blow mold products, including buckets, lamps, gravestones.

They also made Christmas and Easter decorations.

Try searching "Clinton Frankenstein Bucket" or "Strange Frankenstein Bucket."

I agree.

"1964 FRANKENSTEIN GLENN STRANGE BLOW MOLD HALLOWEEN CANDY BUCKET PAIL UNION" though sounds like one of the Ebay descriptions where all kinds of even vaguely related terms are thrown in to make sure the item turns up in whatever kind of semi-related Search. I once asked a seller what on earth a Weekend Magazine picture had to do with a Star Weekly picture after he'd used both descriptions and he replied that he had merely used the title Ebay had "helpfully" provided. Very annoying.

I don't believe I've ever seen any first hand account of the Clinton company that produced these buckets though. One thing we now know for sure is that they initially sold at retail for about $0.59:

Indeed it does. My question about it though has always been whether the Frankenstein bucket was a one-off by Clinton Plastics or was part of a series of Halloween buckets that may have included a witch, skull, jack-o-lantern, scarecrow, owl, black cat, etc.

It is worth pointing out that these buckets are marked UPCo (Universal Pictures Corp.)
Wasn't the manufacturer Clinton Plastics?  I think sometimes Clintoys on their products...?

Here's a picture I took years ago that's still around the web :

The UPC is just a copyright mark for the Frankenstein image.

It sure would have been neat if Clinton had made other Universal monster buckets.  They made some Halloween pumpkin buckets.  I have some older pumpkin lights, harder more brittle type plastic with a flat back made by them,  I think they also made those slip-on monster feet.  Bayshore made some obscure pumpkin buckets with weird monster type faces, you'll see them once in a great while on e-bay every now and then.

My question was not about the license UPCo, but to confirm that CLINTOYS or CLINTON PLASTICS manufactured it.

I just looked at the Frankenstein speaker head box, which is the same mold as the bucket, it was made by Actwell plastics in Hoboken, NJ.  Makes me wonder if the speaker head was molded by Clinton, or perhaps Actwell, or if it was assembled with the speaker and earphone by Actwell only,  or maybe Clinton and Actwell are the same company??
