Title: Recommended Horror/Sci-Fi/Thriller films
Post by: marsattacks666 on April 28, 2019, 07:31:13 PM
I didn't know where to start this question. Under classic or modern Monster movies. I decided classic.🧟‍♂️☠

My Wife and I were discussing recommendations to Horror enthusiasts, who are just beginning to watch films in the genre. In terms of what films to watch and what to add or collect in their film library. This recommendation could also be classic/modern Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller( since, Silence of the Lambs is considered a Thriller and not a Horror film)or Exploitation with Horror elements, e.g., She-Freak, Carnival of Blood, Wizard of Gore...etc.

Both of us came-up with a list of our top ten, that we would recommend as classics. To begin, my Wife gave her top ten list.

1.Frankenstein-1931
2.Dracula-1931
3.Jeepers Creepers-2001
4.Jaws-1975
5.Alien-1979
6.The Conjuring-2013
7.Creature from the Black Lagoon-1954
8. The Crawling Eye(The Trollenberg Terror)-1958
9. Saw-2004
10. Silence of the Lambs-1991

Here is my recommended list

1.The Exorcist-1973
2. Halloween-1978
3. Friday the 13Th-Part II-1981
4. The Haunting-1963
5. Dawn of the Dead-1978
6. An American Werewolf in London-1981
7. The Thing-1982
8. Psycho-1960
9. Cannibal Holocaust-1980
10. Susperia-1977

That's ours. Anyone what join and add their recommendations?

I would consider these films must see for any newbie horror fan. I'm not saying these are my top 10 favorite films (though many of these prob would make my favorite list), but 10 films that are outstanding examples of the genre.

The Exorcist
Halloween
Psycho
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Jaws
John Carpenter's The Thing
King Kong
Bride of Frankenstein
Alien
Horror Of Dracula

I think these 10 films would be great place to start.

I might swap out KK for Night of the Living Dead now that I think about it.

Another great list and to start. I was going to add TCM to my list, and totally forgot.

The Movie Channel

Oh?! I totally forgot about TMC. There could be a chance The Move Channel ran, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre-1974. But most definitely the remake-2004.

1. Dracula (1931)
2. Frankenstein (1931)
3. Psycho (1960)
4. The Wolfman (1941)
5. Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)

7. Silence of the Lambs (1991)
8. Halloween (1978)
9. Friday the 13th (1980)

I may be biased based on my near universal contempt for movies made after the mid 90's.

1. FRANKENSTEIN (1931)
2. DRACULA (1931)
3. KING KONG (1933)
4. THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD (1951)
5. TARANTULA (1955)
6. THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN (1957)
7. PSYCHO (1960)
8. NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968)
9. THE EXORCIST (1973)
10. ALIEN (1979)

That was really tough and I can't believe I didn't squeeze JAWS in. Maybe because I want to believe so many have seen it even if they hadn't gotten into genre films that much yet.
