Title: Ash vs. Evil Dead!
Post by: zombiehorror on November 11, 2014, 01:21:16 AM
Starz is bringing Ash back from the dead...or so to speak, since he never died in the films.  Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell join forces yet again and this time it is on an actual Evil Dead project.  Picking up 30 years from Army of Darkness, Ash has tried to keep a low profile but a plaque of evil deadites threatens humanity so it's Ash to the rescue.

10 half hour episodes (5 hours of new Evil Dead) will be produced for the Starz network.

Add me to the list of waiting for the dvd/Bluray release or maybe its Netflix/Hulu release.

"Ray Santiago ("Touch," Meet the Fockers) will play the role of Pablo Simon Bolivar and Dana DeLorenzo (A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas) will play Kelly Maxwell in the STARZ original series "Ash vs Evil Dead." The series is the long-awaited follow-up to the classic horror film franchise The Evil Dead and is set to film on location in New Zealand this spring and premiere on STARZ in late 2015.

Pablo Simon Bolivar is an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash's loyal sidekick – a Sancho Panza to Ash's Don Quixote.  Pablo believes in Ash's heroism even if Ash himself doesn't.

Kelly Maxwell is a moody wild child trying to outrun her past.  Reluctantly dragged into the fight against Evil with Ash and Pablo, Kelly finds a different kind of family with her fellow Deadite slayers."

I have STARZ, but didn't get a chance to watch it yet (taking care of hungry trick or treaters). The trailers seemed to have way too much cornball humor for my taste. I'll still give it a chance, though.

Thanks for that tip, by the way.  Yet another portal that has me pondering how many other useful ones I might find, if only I thought to look.

We're pondering a stream-only world - which is how we more or less live now with our DVDs, and those don't require subscriber fees or even an urban-jungle world of cable-modem ISPs.

But we do wonder about the long-promised "a la carte" channel selections (which the Cable Industry talked about in the late '90s when 'going digital' was first discussed in the USA.  But we decided we still wouldn't be happy with merely selecting our handful of interesting channels (18?  22?) because most of those also have overnight infomercials, too, which we abhor.  Why should we pay for those channels ALSO for a time when they're not giving us any entertainment?  We should not!  But the solution is, "Stream only those programs we want."

Or buy the DVD boxsets, which we do.

Your discussion of CouchTuner, however, brings up the "how else would we know without watching?" impact, though.  Some of my favorite shows are pretty dull in only the first few episodes - it's not until Season 2 or even 3 before they really pick up.

CouchTuner and its cohorts might be the almost-perfect solution to testing the water, so to speak.

I'll try to tolerate ASH VS EVIL DEAD.  I've tried to, with the films, but I find far better uses of humor, writing and acting in other films.  I'll see if this new crew for the TV series benefits from hindsight.

THe Ash VS Evil Dead first 40 Minute Episode was great, if you like the first Evil Dead Movies you will love this, Bruce Campell is the main star, Directed by Sam Ramni, plenty of bloody action gore and its pretty funny, comes on every Saturday for 8 more 30 minute episodes. So if you get Starz on cable be sure and watch it. 9/10 Score.

Watched the first episode, what a blast.  The only problem I have is they are saying Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness never happened and yet the whole shows aesthetic feels more like it is set in those universes than in the original Evil Dead's.  I don't know why they didn't just let Evil Dead be a standalone and link this to the sequels?

If you are a fan of the Ashley J. Williams character and the type of humor from the films then this show is incredible! I've already watched episode one 3 times and the second episode was pretty darn good. Sam Raimi has stated recently in an interview recently that, although the 2nd and third movies aren't being referenced, Ash very much experienced and has the memories of the events in those films. I've been waiting forever for this to be made and unlike most things of this sort, it does not let down.

I have Dish and one of the stations aired the first two episodes Saturday night. It was ... ok. It was more in the vein of the two sequels where the comedic elements are played up rather than the original film. There's also a bit of My Name Is Bruce in the mix. I'll pass on further episodes unless there's nothing else on worth watching.

Agreed. I was 13 years old and watched that thing on a top loader vhs with my granny. She wanted to watch it...but not alone. I wound up spending the night at her place because it was dark when the film finished and I was too scared to ride my bike home, lol.

I've had a love/hate relationship with this show through the first two seasons. It's entertaining, but rarely did it evoke the same feeling I get when watching the movies. My biggest complaint going into season three was the complete flanderization of Ash's character. They took the Army of Darkness version of Ash and ramped it up to eleven. My other complaint deals with the lack of point, purpose or anything resembling a coherent story.

And I'm happy to see that Season three has vastly improved in these areas. Ash's daughter has done more to flesh Ash's character out than anything we've seen so far. There are character arcs, plot lines and what feels like a gradual build up towards something. This season is also featuring more practical effects. The acting is better, the dialogue, snappier and my interest as high as it's ever been...

...too bad this will probably be it's last season, right when it was getting good.

That monster at the end of the episode was pretty cool. If NECA ever  decides to do a series 3 of Ash vs Evil Dead figures, I'm hoping for a Kelly, Pablo and whatever that thing was.

Episode 307 went live at midnight and it's another winner. It's set at Ash's daughter's prom as the diabolical Ruby attempts to bring her evil plan to fruition. In a strange departure from the tone of previous episodes and seasons, thi installment was filled with dread and foreboding that culminates in an emotional ending that strikes at the very core of Ash's being. Only three episodes left of the season (and most probably the series). It's going to be a fun ride.

It says numbers began to dip and the season go on. Funny, because I think it has not only continued to be entertaining, but the show has become better as it has gone on. I think other people feel the same way.

Well, nothing lasts for ever and maybe there is only so much story you can tell about this. I am glad it lasted at least 3 seasons. It is one of the most fun shows to hit tv.

Seems to me that this would be a "No Brainer" series for Netflix to pick-up. That said, Bruce Campbell announced that he is done playing Ash Williams.

I have to wait until it's on blu-Ray to watch it,  because I don't have starz.  I'm really sad to see it go.   I hope they release the final season.  I hated waiting so long to watch it,  but it is what it is,  and it was worth the wait.

If you don't want to wait, I'd suggest signing up for a free trial of the Starz App. You get one week free, binge watch the entire season, then cancel before your seven days are up.

The finale was fantastic! The monster in the episode is amazing. I hope we get some figures made of this season's characters.

I'm not holding my breath.   I've given up hope on a Kelly and a Pablo at this point.   If they do another wave we might see Ashs sister at least,  as she would have sombre crossover style potential with the regular Evil Dead crowd like Henrietta did.

I really wish they'd make a figure of the Dark Ones. I'd pick up three of them, put them in  semi-circle, the Neconomicon from the upcoming Hero Ash/Evil Ed two pack opened and displayed between them.

Kelly and Pablo would be nice, also. But Brandy is my favorite non-Ash character...
