I have a Flickr contact from Spain, and I was looking through his photos today. He loves monsters and is mainly a book collector. He has many covers scanned in his pic files and I was marvelling at the differences between what they put on the covers of books in his language as opposed to ours.

I love these foreign pieces of ephemera! I have some Mexican lobby cards (bigger, and more colorful than the U.S. ones), and if I can find 'em, I'll add photos of my Thai horror posters. One of my buddies was in Peace Corps in the early '70s and sent me several from the theatres he frequented in Bangkok. More colorful--and far more bizarre--than the Brit or American posters. Yeah the foreign stuff can get kinda weird sometimes, especially the Polish posters. If you go to the link I posted above there are some pretty strange foreign posters including Polish, Hungarian and even Egyptian!!

I don't know why, but I'm not very interested in foreign language monster stuff. And it enrages me that I have to do some serious subtracting of search terms and other criteria in order to avoid getting nothing but Mexican lobby cards for results. Am I wrong in thinking that foreign language posters should be listed under international, regardless of where the movie itself was produced? >:(
Dave - Yep, the Germans labeled Goji Frankenstein. First time I saw that I laughed out loud at it, thinking it was a fluke.
I'm pretty big on the foreign stuff, manly because the design is often so unbridled compared to US issues. The older stuff especially seems to have had no corporate involvement forcing images to be 'on model' and because of that the illustrations often, in my view, ring truer to the spirit of the character or narrative. Or, in the case of the Polish posters Shawn mentions in particular, they are from an entirely different planet.

Dave, foreign posters are supposed to be listed under the international sections which exist on e-bay for posters, lobbies etc. The problem is that sellers often list things in the wrong category. I think people put the foreign stuff in the American sections so that more people will see it.
A Mexican lobby for BEAST FROM HAUNTED CAVE. The colors! The colors! The artist's take on the monster is pretty creative! I always thought the Beast was pretty Lovecraftian looking (never mind it's made of a lot of odds and ends from the prop shed).
