Title: Fifty years of Doctor Who..
Post by: Memphremagog on February 24, 2013, 10:59:25 AM
For those of you with BBC America:

This afternoon promises to be quite a treat.

5pm EST: The First Doctor(a look at the William Hartnell years)

5:40pm:  The Aztecs(four part William Hartnell adventure from season 1)

8pm:       The Second Doctor(a look at the Patrick Troughton era)

9pm:       Tomb Of the Cybermen(four part adventure from season 5)

Really great, especially if you have been unable to view previous Doctor before.

Two of my favorite Doctors.  Gave me the opportunity to finally see the Hartnell episode 'The Aztecs', though I have Troughton's 'Tomb of the Cybermen' on dvd.

The second half of the current season begins Easter weekend. Both the Cybermen and Ice Warriors are returning as well as the Sycorax. Shaping up to be a great crop of episodes!

Don't get BBC America with my current cable package. Haven't seen any new "Who" since it left Syfy. Sucks.

When the show returns March 30, there will be some returning foes in the weeks to come: Sycorax, Cybermen and the Ice Warriors(at last! Havent been seen on screen since 1974!)

Some great releases coming on DVD for the classic Who range this year:

The Reign Of Terror(with missing episodes 4 & 5 now avalable through animation.)
The Tenth Planet..last William Hartnell, first Cybermen and regeneration(missing episode 4 restored through animation.)
The Ice Warriors..first appearance of the Martians(missing episodes 2 & 3 restored through animation)
The Mind Of Evil..classic Jon Pertwee/Master/UNIT story(fully restored to color after many years.)
Terror Of the Zygons..last regular UNIT appearance w/the Brigadier & co during Tom Baker's era..oh and the Loch Ness Monster!

The Third Doctor will be profiled on BBC America on Sunday, March 30 with the showing of the classic, "SPEARHEAD FROM SPACE".

This not only introduces viewers to the Jon Pertwee Doctor in his first story, but also features the UNIT team as regulars for the first time as well as being the debut for the Autons.

Fantastic, I'll finally get to see the first Cyberman story 'The Tenth Planet'.  Looking forward to that release.  Now hopefully the Troughton episode 'Wheel in Space' will soon follow.   ;D

The rumor is that any old story missing two episodes or less is a possible candidate for animation/reconstruction DVD release. This would make the following possible in the near future:

The Crusade(w/William Hartnell)
The Underwater Menace(w/Patrick Troughton)
The Moonbase(w/Patrick Troughton)

It would be wonderful to see these released as there is little Troughton material as it is, the added plus being that MOONBASE is another Cybermen story.

The latest episodes start Saturday night with "THE BELLS OF ST.JOHN"...the Great Intelligence is said to make another appearance, this time in the present day. It would be nice if we were to get some Yeti snuck in there somwwhere.

I have just started watching Dr. Who and I am loving it!  Started with the ones in 2005, almost done with the ones from 2006!  I love Rose!  And watched the very first series with the Aztecs!  I will be watching all of them!

Peter is the same age that William Hartnell was when the show began in 1963..certainly not a bad thing. I was getting tired of the teen heartthrob versions of the Doctor the past few years. This should prove interesting. Now if producer Moffat can just come up with some decent scripts for next season and leave the fairtytale storytelling behind, we may have a really fantastic version of the show again.

It seems that two classic stories, believed to be lost, have now been returned to the BBC and soon will be ready for viewing. Two stories from Season Five, starring Patrick Troughton as the Doctor, ENEMY OF THE WORLD and THE WEB OF FEAR, are now back in time for the 50th anniversary next month. There may still be more to come..time will tell.

When I first 'found' Dr. Who, Tom Baker was the Doctor so he'll always have a special place in my heart.  I've since seen earlier series and also really like William Hartnell and John Pertwee.

I also like Peter Davison and have since I've watched 'All Creatures Great and Small' ..  8)

Colin Baker had a nice edge but I really didn't warm to him.

Dr. Who wasn't always available where I was living or life got in the way of television .. some of the early writers and directors of Dr. Who were also involved with 'Blake's 7' ... another program that I really loved.

The first Doctor I saw was Peter Cushing in the Theater, followed by Tom Baker then Jon Pertwee, I really loved classic who especially the fine character actors that appeared weekly in the show.

I met both Peter Cushing and then later Jon Pertwee (several times) and they were both wonderful people , Peter loved Dr Who and was saddened a third film never materialized , Jon was a super cool fellow (a real live action hero) we discussed racing and classic cars ( The Who mobile was something he had built )  He brought a James Bond quality to Doctor Who

There were alot of people working in the UK that did several different shows , Peter Davidson was on Who , All Creatures Great and Small and the Tomorrow People to name a few.

Terry Nation (real Creator of the Daleks who are my favoritre who villan)  was also the creator of Blakes 7 , I had met him in NY and we had dinner together and we talked Who , Blakes 7 , and other misc sci fi topics .

He was a true gentleman and pleasure to meet and talk with, he brought a dark edge to scifi in the film industry .

I recal while discussing various topics he mentioned he did not care for the "sweet" Star Trek universe and believed people would always be the same so though teck would advance in the future, the world would be as dark as it is today with all the evils still present.

I was getting tired of the teen heartthrob versions of the Doctor the past few years.

That's been my complaint about Doctor Who for most of the "new" series. I get the feeling that it's been written by proxy by teen-age girls and fan-driven emails. The reason I so much loved "classic" DW was that he was DIFFERENT from any other sci-fi character.
In order to make him that heartthrob, they've removed his uniqueness. I think the single most defining line of dialogue in the character's 50 year history was in "City of Death." Unfortunately it was a lousy episode and a lousy season, but when the 4th Doctor said to the Countess (Catherine Schell) "you're a very beautiful woman. Probably.", that "Probably" underscored his alienness and set him apart. With the new series, the focus is "oh, is he going to kiss this companion or that one." Who cares? People can watch any other sci-fi show's lead character if that's the defining aspect of him.
I hope they can return to the Doctor being what he was meant to be decades ago: UNIQUE FROM EVERY OTHER CHARACTER.

I think Peter Capaldi will deliver a very interesting Doctor. He's the same age as William Hartnell when he first took on the role, 51 years ago. His new costume is reminiscent of John Pertwee, with a slightly modern twist. I would love to see a total redesign of the T.A.R.D.I.S.'s interior, too. Something closer to what was seen in Sylvester McCoy's era would be fun.

Ah, but Clara erased all mention of The Doctor from the Dalek databases in "Asylum of the Daleks". When the Daleks attacked the Church of the Papal Mainframe, they discovered records of him in Tasha Lem's memories. All of those Daleks were destroyed at Trenzalore ("The Time of the Doctor"). Davros, however, would never forget The Doctor!

The Daleks that were destroyed at Trenzalore certainly were not all of the Daleks in creation..the war of Trenzalore went on for hundreds of years. I'm sure in all that time, the Daleks who were attacking the town of Christmas would report information back to Skaro and the Dalek Parliment. They had more than ample opportunity to rebuild their memory banks with info concerning the Doctor over the centuries that ensued  before the final battle there. According to previous stories, the Dalek computer inside each of their casings is updated with info, etc..
I'm pretty sure that intelligence concerning the Doctor was shared amongst their race during those years..

The Cybermen had their records deleted as well, and yet they reconstructed their history concerning the Doctor by going over the gaps in their defeats and investigating them, thereby finding the common factor in each according to their Cyber-Planner/Controllers..

Cute, but he went by 'Jon'.

It was too many years ago, but I was immediately hooked.  Between 'The Avengers' with the delectable Diana Rigg as Emma Peel and the debonair Patrick Macnee as John Steed and  the various Doctors of 'Doctor Who', I quickly became an Anglophile.

I don't get BBC America on my cable package, so I'll have to wait for the DVD set. It's already up for pre-order on Amazon, but no release date is specified. Amazon UK has it listed as November.

But, the trailer confirms my theory about the Doctor's age. He was already 1200 years old when he landed in Christmas in "The Time of the Doctor." He sent Clara away in the TARDIS, and it took 300 years for it to return because she was clinging to the outside of it. The Doctor had visibly aged, but not too badly. When Tasha Lem returns Clara to the Doctor as he is about to die, his age has greatly advanced. He looks about 90. I had hypothesized that about 500 years had passed, making the Doctor now 2000 years old. In this trailer, the Doctor states he is now over 2000 years old! Where do I collect my non-prize?

I can relate. The first Doctor Who I saw was DOCTOR WHO AND THE SILURIANS back in 1975...after a year or two of PBS broadcasts it disappeared only to return a few years later with the Tom Baker episodes. Been watching ever since.

In the story Time and the Rani, the newly regenerated 7th Doctor says he is 953 years old. The 9th says he is 900 years old. Who was lying? The 7th used his age as the code to a door, and guessed correctly since The Rani was the same age and used that number as the code for the lock.

In "The Day of the Doctor", the Tenth Doctor says he's 904. Eleven claims to be 1200, "...unless I'm lying, which I could be, because I'm so old now I sometimes forget just how old I am." There seem to be some continuity errors between the original series and the new series. For instance...where's The Valyard?

Post by: Memphremagog on July 17, 2014, 09:32:59 AM
Eleven's claims to be over a thousand is probably accurate, more accurate than 10's..the War Doctor incarnation was around for several centuries before he became Eccleston..the Doctor was already well over 900 years old by then. Eleven spent a few hundred years(by his reckoning) between the events of THE IMPOSSIBLE ASTRONAUT and WEDDING OF RIVER SONG. Add to this the fact that he spent hundreds of years defending Trenzalore during the events of TIME OF THE DOCTOR and this would put him at well over 1200 years old easily. Capaldi's Doctor claiming to be over 2000 could very well be accurate.

As for the Valyard, he was an amalgamation(or shade) of the Doctor's darker nature, not an actual incarnation. This is why he wanted the remaining regenerations at the time he encountered the Colin Baker Doctor., he had no real lives of his own and the corrupt Time Lord council at the time had promised him the Doctor's if he destroyed him after he uncovered the scandal of Ravalox(Earth). The Valyard has been mentioned a couple of times in the new series, usually in conjunction with what the Doctor may become if left unchecked by his companions.
Title: Re: Fifty years of Doctor Who..
Post by: John Pertwee on July 17, 2014, 10:31:42 PM
I never understood why the Time Lords would have given the Valyard lives at all. He was much more dangerous than The Master. He was insane, but The Valyard would have been pure evil genius.

I know the entire ending to the season had to be created overnight when Saward withdrew his rewrite of the Robert Holmes script. JNT had to brief Pip and Jane about episode 13 with a Lawyer in the room. The original ending had The Doctor and Valyard tumbling through space in a "will they survive" cliffhanger.

Yeah, they really treated Colin Baker rather shabbily when it came to releasing him from his contract. Yet, he adores "Doctor Who" to this day, and says Eccleston was the way he wanted to play the Sixth Doctor: dark clothes, no goofy affectations, just sort of blend into the crowd. I've noticed that the current production team always seems to make sure Colin Baker's Doctor is included whenever they show footage of past Doctors. Was really glad to see Paul McGann (#8) back for "Night of the Doctor", too.

Christopher Eccleston has been my favorite of the Doctors since the show was revived. I wished he had stayed at least one more season..I enjoyed stories from Tennant's run and far less of Smith's. Hoping Capaldi brings back some of the seriousness to the role that Eccleston showed.

Capaldi's Doctor looks like he's going to be pretty serious. He's on a mission to correct his "many mistakes" of the past, it seems. Even Clara seems uncertain about him...which is good!

Regarding the premiere, Capaldi makes a great Doctor and Clara was excellent, but the Paternoster gang has to go..they are one note wonders and slowed this story down to a crippling pace.

They were just there to bridge the old and the new. Doubt we will see them again until next year.

Peter was great. "Who frowned me this face" and that entire explanation really gives me goose bumps that we might get to revisit the Family from Pompeii.

Sadly, I don't get BBC America in my cable package. I'll get this, and the season set, when it comes out in November. Maybe this will have some extras, like the theatrical version prologue.

INTO THE DALEK was great..Capaldi is already shaping up to be a classic Doctor and the best one since Eccleston. He manages to channel bits of both Bakers and Eccleston while putting his own stamp on the character. I hope his Doctor doesnt mellow any time soon. His responses to things have an unpredictabilty that is refreshing to the show after the antics of the past few seasons. Cant wait to see more! :)

The two most recent episodes, "Mummy on the Orient Express" and "Flatline", have really been throwbacks to the classic "Doctor Who" era. Missy really felt shoehorned into the end of "Flatline", almost like an intrusion.

Missy and Danny Pink are my least favorite part of the current show, first thing this morning i had a questionaire from the BBC asking what i had to say about 'Flatline', i told them the truth - it was ecceptional storytelling.
I will be getting Questionaires for the next five weeks - why they want to keep asking about it after the season ends is anyones guess.

Yes, it would be nice to see a companion who was just that. Donna was great until they came up with the Doctor/Donna thing. Not sure if Courtney Woods is going to be the next companion or not. Hopefully, the whole Missy/Promised Land thing gets resolved, so the Doctor can just have cool adventures again.

Well, season eight is over (except for the Christmas Special). Peter Capaldi's first year has been a real rollercoaster ride, giving us one of the most complex, enigmatic versions of the character since William Hartnell's incarnation. It will be interesting to see where season nine takes us.

I believe Capaldi and Michelle Gomez are friends, so it's not terribly surprising that she'll be back. Just like David Tennant and Catherine Tate were friends, and it led to Donna Noble becoming a companion. I guess Matt Smith thought better of trying to use his newfound clout to get work for his unemployed actor pals!

It's been ten years since the new version of the show started and I'd just like to name a few things that I've enjoyed since the show's return:

Christopher Eccleston
Billie Piper
Capt.Jack Harkness
Daleks vs. Cybermen
The Ood
Freema Ageyman
The Master's return
The Weeping Angels
The Time War
The War Doctor
Ice Warriors
The Silence
Peter Capaldi
Day Of the Doctor
Zygons
Davros
Karen Gillan
Sarah Jane Smith's return
TORCHWOOD
UNIT with Kate Lethbridge Stewart

Capaldi's Doctor is easily the best of the modern Doctors for me so far, he is on par with Troughton, Pertwee and Tom Baker for quirkiness.

Eccleston is apparently still suffering from whatever sour taste working on "Doctor Who" left in his mouth. Paul McGann would also be a great choice for a guest spot. His appearance in "Night of the Doctor" was far too brief.

That is, indeed, a two-parter, as is the UNIT/Zygons story. The production team has remarked that this season would see the return of two part stories and they seem to be going with it.
Title: Re: Fifty years of Doctor Who..
Post by: Count_Zirock on May 09, 2015, 03:37:43 PM
In the past, when "Doctor Who" was only a half-hour, two-part and multi-part stories made sense. At 45 minutes per episode, I think two-parters should be used sparingly. We only get 13 episodes plus a Christmas special, as it is.
Title: Re: Fifty years of Doctor Who..
Post by: Memphremagog on May 11, 2015, 05:40:54 PM
The two parters of past seasons were usually for a good story until Moffat took over as producer, then they started getting used for drek that could barely pad one episode.
Title: Re: Fifty years of Doctor Who..
Post by: WnewCreatureFeatures on July 07, 2015, 09:27:48 AM
Moffat had said some of the two parters may not be traditional two parters ,

on the some the 2nd episode may take off exactly where the previous one let off making one continuous story

While others may just have a common element that was in the earlier episode

EXCLUSIVE SERIES 9 PREQUEL AT DEATH IN HEAVEN 3D SCREENINGS (http://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk/exclusive-series-9-prequel-at-death-in-heaven-3d-screenings-75033.htm)

The Series 8 finale, Dark Water/Death in Heaven, will receive a 3D cinema release just ahead of the Series 9 premiere.

US cinema listings have appeared for a limited two day event taking place in September. An exclusive “prequel” (yes, they’re still calling them that) entitled “The Doctor’s Meditation” for Series 9 is promised.

Details:

BBC Worldwide North America and Fathom Events announce the return of the longest running sci-fi television series, Doctor Who, to the big screen for a two-night special theatrical event, Doctor Who: Dark Water/Death in Heaven in spectacular 3D, starring Peter Capaldi.

Doctor Who: Dark Water/Death in Heaven, the show’s two-part eighth season finale, will be presented in RealD™ 3D and Dolby Atmos sound (where available) on September 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. (local time). The event will feature The Doctor’s Meditation- a special prequel scene to the first episode of season nine – and an exclusive interview with Doctor Who stars Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman, hosted by Wil Wheaton (Big Bang Theory, Star Trek: Nemesis), in addition to the two-part season eight finale.

Tickets for Doctor Who: Dark Water/Death in Heaven in 3D can be purchased online beginning Friday, July 31 by visiting www.FathomEvents.com, or participating theater box offices. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy the event in approximately 700 movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network. For a complete list of theater locations visit the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change).

This event is US only. BBC Worldwide told Sci-Fi Bulletin that “Due to the number of events taking place for Doctor Who this year including the Symphonic Spectacular and the Doctor Who Festival, we decided against showing the episodes in UK cinema.”

A 3D Blu-ray release of the episodes will also reportedly follow September 22.

No, I hadn't. Thanks for pointing that out. I wonder if those were newly made, were still in the BBC props archives, or were borrowed from fans? I know for "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens," they ended up hiring the two fans in charge of the R2-D2 Builders Club UK to build and maintain all of the R2 units seen in the film. None of the UK effects houses knew how to make them! I know a lot of "Doctor Who" fan clubs have folks building Dalek and Cyberman suits from various periods, especially in the UK.

Better pix of the upcoming Twelfth Doctor 5" action figure. Big reveal is the closed sonic screwdriver accessory. Past figures all came with the extended version of the screwdriver. Much has been made of the figure lacking a waistcoat. This may be a detail that will be added later. Wonderful start to the new season: The return of the Master(Missy), the Shadow Proclamation, UNIT, Davros(!!) and Skaro, a Dalek from the original Dead Planet story, Capaldi wearing Patrick Troughton's costume, the voiceovers from previous Doctors Tom, Peter, Colin, Sylvester and David, footage of Tom Baker's Doctor and a cracking performance by Peter Capaldi as the Doctor!

Cannot wait for the second part to this story! If the rest of the season is as good as this, this could be one of the all-time classic seasons. :)

Capaldi isn't wearing the Troughton costume. This is his look from "Last Christmas." It's the same as pretty much the rest of the season, except he's wearing a black hoodie over a collarless shirt, with his frock coat over the hoodie. The checked pants are new, yes, and reminiscent of Troughton. But, the sunglasses are pure Capaldi.

They have been edited into ominbus versions, basically. That is, the individual episode titles and end credits of each story have been removed as if to make it one big story.

Eight new episodes are scheduled to be released next year!

A friend made me watch an episode around 1986 but I simply could not get into more than 20 minutes of it.

I do like sci fi and B movie cheese.

If that episode doesn't make you want to see more Doctor Who, try a Tom Baker story. Though it will take a few episodes to tell the whole story, you will get another chance to get into the show (and I like the Fourth Doctor's personality best). Count, do you have a suggestion for the first Tom Baker episode of Doctor Who one should try? If so, thanks!

For a really immersive experience into the "Doctor Who" universe, there's the fiftieth anniversary special, "The Day of the Doctor." You have three versions of the Doctor (five if you include cameos by Tom Baker and Peter Capaldi), and the mini-episode "The Night of the Doctor," featuring Eighth Doctor Paul McGann.

So far, I'm really liking series 9. Capaldi has truly come into his own as The Doctor. I wasn't sure about the mostly two-parter nature of this season's episodes, but it's actually worked out pretty well. After this Saturday's "The Woman Who Lived" episode, Series Nine, Part One will be available on DVD & BRD on November 3rd.

Thankfully this seems to be false. This has been one of the best seasons yet.
Yes, fortunately, The Mirror seems to have got it wrong. DoctorWhoTV have updated their story with refutations from both Capaldi and Moffat.

SERIES 10 WILL REPORTEDLY BE HALVED [UPDATED]

November 6, 2015

Series 10 will contain just half the amount of episodes in 2016, the Mirror are now claiming. The reason apparently due to Peter Capaldi wanting to work on other projects.

Full report:

Doctor Who will return with half the usual episodes next year when its star Peter Capaldi is granted leave.

The BBC pushed for more than the regular 12 instalments but the Time Lord actor wants to do other projects too.

He told bosses working harder was not on, for both himself and the “exhausted” crew.

“If you did the series all year there’d be casualties – and one would be its quality,” he said. “There’s a point where you can’t drive people any harder.”

Capaldi, 57, is to direct a film loosely based on his time in Glasgow punk band The Dreamboys and two episodes of the US TV series Veep. Peter was lead singer and guitarist in The Dreamboys – which also counted Late, Late Show host Craig Ferguson among its numbers – while a student at Glasgow School of Art in the early 80s.

Insiders on Doctor Who have revealed that – as with Matt Smith – the next series will be reduced significantly to allow Capaldi the time off he needs.

Next year’s reduced run for Doctor Who will be supplemented by a Christmas special.

But Capaldi has admitted: “Playing the Doctor takes up so much time. It doesn’t leave much room for other things.”

Show boss Steven Moffat stressed that Capaldi is not quitting the star role, saying: “Peter is going nowhere.”

UPDATE: Peter Capaldi has responded to the rumours stating: “That’s not what I’ve been told… that’s not what I’m contracted for.” See the video extract below:

Peter Capaldi, talking to (*at*)lizo_mzimba, denies reports there’ll be half the number of (*at*)BBCDoctorWho episodes in 2016 pic.twitter.com/oqwQ83jKle

— BBC Ents News Team ((*at*)BBCNewsEnts) November 6, 2015

Steven Moffat also told the Radio Times that they are “making” a full series, although he did not state if all the episodes will air in 2016, or when:

“We’re making a full series. I can confirm that. I’m making a full series of 12 episodes, plus a Christmas special. I don’t know when it goes out. That’s up to someone else. And even if I did know – which I genuinely don’t – I wouldn’t be allowed to say so as I have absolutely no say in it whatsoever. [But] it’s not being reduced in size. We’re not making fewer episodes. That’s all complete bunk. I can confirm that absolutely.”

I wasn't crazy about last week's episode. And this season wasn't as good as last season, overall, to me. But I still think Mr. Capaldi is a fantastic Doctor Who! It's only the writing I'm often less than thrilled with. This is bad, but he's still great...that's my point :)

Its Britishness is part of its charm. The new episodes are particularly amusing, since Capaldi is Scottish. Actually, David Tennant is Scottish, too, but he played the character with a British accent. It would be great if they could get Tennant to make a return appearance and have him go Scottish in the presence of Capaldi's Doctor. (Tennant's Doctor did "affect" a Scottish accent for the episode "Tooth and Claw.")

Would be a shame to lose him on the show. He is great, even when the script/story is not. I agree with a fan who said they hope Peter can at least try one more season after the current script guy leaves, so we can see Peter be Doctor Who with someone else doing the writing.

By the way, I really liked the 2015 special "The Husbands of River Song" and feel it beats every single episode of this 2015 season.

Steven Moffat stands down and Chris Chibnall to take over (http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/doctorwho/entries/55e94ef2-0282-494f-a62c-82bd514f02fe)

BBC announces Steven Moffat’s next series of "Doctor Who" will be his last and confirms Chris Chibnall as new Head Writer and Executive Producer.

After six incredible series at the helm, the multi-award winning Steven Moffat has decided to step down as the lead writer and executive producer of "Doctor Who."

Although he has had some wonderful stories during his time as producer, much of his reign has been peppered with convoluted mess storylines running throughout various seasons, some truly awful reoccurring characters such as the Paternoster gang, the ludicrous retooling of the Master as a woman and some pretty childish stories that some people played Emperor's new clothes with and tried to pass off as brilliant or genius when what they actually were was either nonsense or a total waste of 45 minutes.

I'm a bit apprehensive regarding Chris Chibnall taking over the series as his writing on the show has been pretty weak..at least Moffat when he wasnt producer, turned in some really memorable scripts during the Eccleston/Tennant runs. :o

Before The Moff became the show runner, his episodes were stand outs or even down right instant classics.
Empty Child, Girl in the Fireplace, Blink. I could go on. As show runner, he did

With Chris, there is no such pattern. He doesn't even have one episode I would call incredible. His episodes just  tread water while waiting for the real story to kick off elsewhere. I am not excited about this at all. When you factor in that we will have to wait an entire year AGAIN I am disgusted by the whole situation. I hope Chris hires excellent writers and brings back a few more monsters from the classic series. Axos, The Spiders, Sil, Movellans. I think the Axons would fit in very well, and Sil was just too evil to leave in the past.

Yes, the only story we'll get is the X-Mas special for 2016...it is rather lame, all in all. :(

Moffat's commitment to "Sherlock," and all that rubbish, I'm afraid. Yes, it's lame. At least it gives Capaldi a bit of a break, though. He has other projects he wants to work on, too. I believe there's several fan web series available to be checked out.

She really hasnt been in anything of note before; I'll say this: from her "screen test" with Capaldi's Doctor that was released a month or so back, I'm not impressed. Her character is rather bland/boring/smug and she is far from attractive. If this was the best that the BBC could do after giving the show a year off, maybe it's time to give it another rest.  :P

Power of the Daleks airs starting Saturday the 19th one episode a week.

The Doctor Who con was amazing. Peter didn't appear at the dinner mystery but Stephen Thorne was played Omega. His voice booming through the hall was spine chilling. Terry Molly played a pre wheel chair Davros. Caitlin Blackwood was Young Amy Pond. It was amazing.

Anneke Wills was the most incredible guest ever. I got to take her and Stephen to a local place called Cowtown the day before the event started. As we were leaving, a young fan saw my Doctor Who shirt that had the faces of all the Doctors. I told him that the woman standing next to me was in the show with the first two Doctors, and the man was in the show with the first four Doctors his mind was blown.
I drove Terry around the city the day before, and he was such a nice man. Our adventure consisted of going to the grocery store. The hugs from Anneke on the last day are just a memory now, but I can still feel them.

Peter sold out of his book early Saturday morning. He was a very nice man and had such great stories to tell. His book is full of surprises.

I will add more when I get back from work.

On sale now through BARNES & NOBLE:

POWER OF THE DALEKS

Wonderful release of Patrick Troughton's debut as the Doctor from 1966. This set has not one, but three versions of the story to view. The B&W animation version, a color animation version and the telesnaps version. The animation versions both have commentary from various cast & crew members of the story. Included is a documentary on the making of the story as well as surviving footage and production notes. This is an early release at Barnes & Noble and right now it's on sale for under $20.00. Well worth seeking out for fans of the series.

I don't know if I've mentioned it here, but in a few weeks I'll be working a Doctor Who convention in Wichita Ks.
I'm excited because I'll be doing a few panels with Katy Manning, Composer Dominic Glynn, and Sylvester McCoy.
We also have William Russell, Matthew Waterhouse, Eric Roberts, and Script Editor Andrew Cartmel.

Well, the good news is Sylvester will be on Sense 8, bad news is he had to cancel his appearance at our show.

With less than two weeks to go, it's too late to get another Doctor.

The Staff and Guests of Time Eddy 3 in Wichita Ks. October 20-22 2017.
William Russell aka Ian Chesterson
Katy Manning aka Jo Grant and Iris Wyldthyme
Mattheww Waterhouse aka Adric
Dominic Glynn aka Composer Extraordinaire

My week started Wednesday the 18th at 5AM when I picked up Matthew Waterhouse. We had breakfast and went to a local bookstore where we each found a Dark Shadows we wanted. He got the best one, and we talked about his Dark Shadows Audio plays where he works with Lara (Angelique) Parker. He is a great guy and very easy to talk to. As a child watching Doctor Who, I grew up watching The Doctor and Romana. Adric was the first new companion I had watched and really liked him. He was a bit older than I was at the time, and my fantasy was to join The Doctor on his travels so Adric was my hero. Meeting him made my inner 13 year old squee.

After taking him back to the hotel for a much needed nap, I met William Russell and his wife Etheline. Ian Chesterson! In my home town! After a brief interview with the local newspaper, Matthew was off to nap and William and his wife wanted to go out. We went to Cowtown (a local old west style "town" where there is a Blacksmith, wood worker, and working farm that is run like it was in the 1800s) and enjoyed an afternoon walking around the town. In the Saloon, we enjoyed a Sarsaparilla. The Saloon keep asked Mr. Russell what he had appeared in. When he said Doctor Who, she heard Doctor Seuss. Later before we left, she asked me about it and I corrected the misconception. She immediately got the Managing Director and other Who fans involved in mobbing him in the street by the Newspaper.

By the time that was over, we left for a late lunch at The Anchor. William and I shared an Ale and we all talked about Wichita, London, and parts between. As we left to head back to the hotel, William asks me about my car (a 2015 Chevy Malibu) and tells me it's "Very Swish"

Thursday was great. We had a private dinner event at the Kansas Cosmosphere. The Cosmosphere is home to the Apollo 13 capsule and is my favorite place to go in Kansas. I spent many hours watching them take apart and restore Liberty Bell 7. I have been there at least 30 times, but the private tour to the conservation area was new to me. I drove William up to the museum, about an hour from Wichita, and we had a great time. After dinner and the lecture from Amy Shira Teitel, William was ready to head back to the hotel. Before we left, he posed for a moment with the SR71.

Here is a picture of William with the SR71 hanging from the ceiling.

Time Eddy Day 1 Oct. 20th

The day started with a 6AM wake up call. As the Vendor Room chief, I had to get everyone loaded in and overcome obstacles like the Hartnell Tardis console needing to be moved  due to photo opp requirements and other small problems until about 9AM. I went upstairs for Second Breakfast and met Katy Manning. She arrived after we had left for the Cosmpsphere so didn't get a chance to meet her until then. We chatted about or panel later in the day and then I had to dash back down to make sure vendors were doing well.

Eric Roberts was late, and his production schedule kept pushing back his flight so late in the day we found out he would be there for Sunday only. This was devastating news especially after Sylvester McCoy had cancelled a few weeks earlier. Fans were happy to meet Katy and William so didn't really mind or even complain. That was a load off our minds as we were worried how people would take it.

I went down to get a few things autographed by William Russell. The script books for Unearthly Child and The Daleks. Waris signed the Unearthly Child last year.

I started out the Katy panel playing I am The Doctor by Jon Pertwee, but she was late because she HAS to stop for hugs. (Katy hugs are life giving things and must be experienced) I told her to come in as soon as she hears applause, and she said "What if I don't hear any?" LOL, as if...
I fumbled through my introduction talking about UNIT and how she was brought into the show, and announce her to thunderous applause. She comes in, and proceeds to take over the room. A whirlwind is an apt description of what happened next. She ignored me for about 5 minutes and went into story after story. She finally came over to sit down and refused to use the microphone. I played word association with her using names of her cast, surprised her with questions, and she went over time a bit because we needed a few minutes to finish but the fifty minutes went by too quickly.

Us, after the panel.

Next up, photo opps. William Russell with the Hartnell Console.

Then we did the Katy photo, and she was late due to stopping for hugs.

Bought the new Dominic Glynn CDs. The remixs from Happiness Patrol he would be preforming at the concert Saturday night.

More to come...

Friday night, last thing I did was the Murder Mystery Dinner. Katy and Matthew showed up playing Iris and Adric, and unmasked the Killer played by my friend Robert. He was The Meddling Monk and here is a pic of him after Katy tells him he will die from the Death of a Thousand Kisses administered by her.

Saturday, my Daughter came along to hang out for her birthday. We got pictures with the Console, The Tardis, and other fun things. They watched me do the Dominic Glynn panel. We had a great talk about his life, work, and how his music was used on The Simpsons and other things. I forgot to bring my recorder so didn't record it. Bummer.

I spent the day chasing Katy for an autograph on the Pertwee Annual I have that was signed by Jon. I later found out Katy had been rushed to the Emergency room (she was fine, just had walking Pneumonia) She posted this on twitter, and talked about it in panels so that the only reason I mention it here. She was a trooper. She finished the weekend by doing TWO panels Saturday and more photo opps and autographs.

By the time the Dominic Glynn concert took place, I was exhausted and watched it in bed. Here is a link...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCwJAYJKW0o (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCwJAYJKW0o)

Sunday, we found out that Eric wasn't coming. Period. Flight issues kept him from making a connecting flight so we had to break the news to everyone. Nobody really cared. They were having too much fun with the people we did have. Autographs and photo opps for everyone else there went really well, and people that had saved money for Eric went ahead and spent it on other guests.

I got my photo Sunday with Matthew with my niece Rachel. My first time watching Doctor Who was with her, She is 8 years younger than I am and we were watching Electric Company on PBS when Doctor Who started. That music and opening titles kept us watching. Armageddon Factor episode 3 or 4, I'm not sure which one. It was nice to get that pic with her. I had Matthew sign the PBS promo item I bought from Who North America for .50 and then watched Matthew and Katy film a promo for the local PBS station. The promo was perfect, but the outtakes are hilarious and watching them work was a privilege. Katy stopped to play the Doctor Who pinball machine Steve brought in, and then it was time for closing ceremony. The weekend, over too soon.

After the ceremony, we gathered staff and guests for the photo with the TARDIS and said our goodbyes. Katy hugs (she wasn't contagious) were had, and they were whisked away.

I may be wrong, but I think the series is heading for another cancellation..
You are wrong. If the ratings drop, Whittaker will regenerate at the end of series 11. Christopher Eccleston only did one series (his choice), and the show survived.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171118/fedfbb901e13f1590e3f441ae34744aa.jpg)

The ratings didnt drop when Christopher Eccleston was the Doctor, they were extremely high as the show had just returned for one thing so your reasoning goes out the window. Apparently you either werent around or dont remember season 26 of the old show, the Doctor didnt regenerate after the end of that: it was cancelled, pure and simple.

The show's ratings have taken hit after hit since Steven Moffat became producer and the number of episodes have continued to dwindle from 13 episodes and an Xmas special to now 10 episodes and an Xmas special, furthermore, the constant rejigging of seasons)skipping a year, splitting the season out over two years, showing only one new episode one year, etc.) has NOT done the show any favors, It smacks of the same tired air that it had when it was cancelled the first time..so, yes, the show may continue, it probably will, but dont tell me I'm wrong for reasons that you posted because they have occurred before and the show was cancelled before. You may not be aware of this but the show was VERY close to being cancelled when David Tennant(Eccleston's replacement) left the role; and he went out on an all-time high in popularity, long before the most recent production team started inflicting damage due to poor production schedules and lack of consistant showrunning. This has been confirmed by both Russell To Davies and Moffat so anything is possible due to BBC politics being what they are.

The new animated Shada is good, but they left out a few scenes and edited some down. They also used generic prisoners in the Shada prison cells. Eventually someone will edit together a version using the Ian Levine animation version and all existing versions to show a completed version with a Dalek, a Cyberman, and a Zygon as prisoners.

The Christmas Special was pretty good, and a fitting farewell for Capaldi. It was also nice to see Dave Bradley reprising the First Doctor. Now, we have the long wait until Fall for the new series starring Jodie Whittaker. Hopefully, we see some footage this July at San Diego Comic-Con.

Have you ever wanted to be the Doctor, traveling through time and space, meeting companions and having adventures? "Doctor Who—Time of the Daleks" is a semi co‑operative board game where you become one of six regenerations of the Doctor, traveling through time and space prevent the Daleks from erasing the Doctor from time and taking over the universe.

In "Doctor Who: Time of the Daleks," players will take the role of the Doctor. You’ll get into your TARDIS and travel through space and time. Find and join up with Companions who will help you overcome challenges to repair the web of time. All of the Doctors are working together, as you want to keep the Daleks from taking over. However, only one of you can be the first one to get your TARDIS to Gallifrey and prevent Davros from completing his master plan.

I just picked up a R1 new release called Doctor Who The Animation Collection. It has Shada, Power of the Daleks, Scream of the Shalka, Dreamland and The Infinite Quest. A bargain for $20.

Dreamland and The Infinite Quest star David Tennant
Power of the Daleks stars Patrick Troughton in the first Regeneration story. (Color version only)
Shada stars Tom Baker. A mix of live action and animation, this story is finally completed after a production strike halted the serial in the middle of filming.
Scream of the Shalka stars Richard E. Grant as an alternate Doctor, and you won't believe who plays The Master.
